In some areas there is a beige or tan caulk (on the 2015 182g anyway).  Is this simply a colored silicone or another product?  I've heard that some caulks are not compatible with silicone but I haven't verified.

Yes clear Silicone.  Clean the area with a cloth dampened with lacquer thinner, or denatured alcohol. Dry off with another clean cloth. Then caulk.
