Topic: R-Pod 179 Defective Dinette Posted: 05 Mar 2015 at 11:59am |
First thing I did when I bought my new 179 last August was to give my table away to Goodwill. To heavy and bulky to move it around. Replaced it with a fold up canvas table. No storage problems, easy to move and set up. Grayotter

I've got the '14 179 HRE and the bed problem exists. FRs response was the same then as now, remove the feet from the table. They also sent me the cusion which fits in the space not covered by the existing cushions. Of course removing the feet did not resolve the problem. We're living with it!

You could pop the front grate off and poke around with your finger (when it is cool) to see if you can find the rattle. It might be the front itself.

A bigger problem has been our heater rattle. Took it back to our dealer and 3 weeks later (took that long to get approval for parts?!!) Of course it still rattles. Tried a different dealer same thing. 3 weeks still rattles. Took it back and after one week they have done nothing as they can't seem to replicate the rattle. Told us they have had running 8 hrs a day and periodically check for noise. I'm not kidding. Talked to a parts guy who told me privately that no one had even looked at it yet. Said common practice is to let trailer set for at least 3 weeks before checking since we didn't buy there. Sure would appreciate a phone # for forest river. Neither dealer would give it to me.

Ours was the same.Frustrating. Tried 3 different tables all were off by 2 to 4 inches. We gave up and removed the storage box (3 screws) which greatly enhanced the leg room and made it way easier to get in and out of Dinette area.

Sounds like the table + legs that came with the earlier models were better.

I have the 179 and mine drops to the correct level. The cushions are off a bit. We actually removed the table anyway

One thing that l have learned over the last 63 years is ( new or used there are always problems) and l have been more satisfied buying used. I usually pay a lot less for used which builds in a
cushion for possible repairs. I am very handy and can make most repairs on my own.
In addition, when l have bought new my expectations are higher. Expectations for new is perfection and as we should all know nothing is perfect.

I appreciate the comments and fix's. They actually now provide a cushion to fill in where you mentioned so it should work, right?
I guess I never thought that something so basic and necessary would be handled so poorly by the manufacturer. Know its an issue, do nothing. I specifically bought a new unit instead of used because this is my first travel trailer (had pop-up previously) and I wanted to make sure that everything worked properly and I didn't get any surprises. Guess I learned a big lesson here.
Thank you for the advice.
Truly disappointed, Leigh

You shouldn't have to do it, but a simple fix would be to replace the high cushion on the table with a piece of memory foam with a thickness that will bring everything to level. Even if what you did have from the factory did fit, I don't think that big ole slot in the cushions right in the middle of the area on the table would be very comfortable anyway.
A lot of Podders hate the table. Mine (and I see yours too) had a 1/2 inch slope and wobbled. They are heavy and cumbersome and it's in the garbage.
Good luck Sir, and Happy Podding!
