176T with backrest installed and FR table replaced with 2x boards / Lite-Weight Table

Here is the 176T configuration after popping the tent - no cushions shown.

With the single board, add the cushions and  my short queen foam mattress for bedtime. Short cushion used on short board.

Shown with backrest up, without cushions

Angle of backrest. (I stow the 2x boards - not shown - behind backrest which gives added support)

Backrest installed with piano hinge about 1 3/4" from tent base

Cushions installed ...

Couch with lite-weight, folding table (BJs?).  Ready for eating and/or TV viewing.

No doubt the 176t with the tent open and the slide out seems much roomier and brighter, it makes the whole unit seem much bigger. We hung a curtain (on tension rod) across the upper bunk opening to act as a "closet door" and we use it as our store room, clothes containers, food etc.. Works great for the 2 of us. And yes, the backrest was a great mod., a piano hinge and piece of plywood can make a nice difference. Always liked sleeping in a tent and now we have a roof over our head.

I also have a r-pod 176 no T. I am 5'10' 275 and sleep on the bottom bunk.      you do have to be somewhat agile to get in and out. It does sleep great.

I have just the 176 (no T) and I prefer to sleep in the bottom bunk. I'm only 5'2" and I kind of like the cave-like-ness. My German Shepherd even squeezes in with me at my feet. I have thought about cutting the top bunk in half, but I sometimes have my 8 yr old niece with me and she likes the top bunk, so it stays as is for now.

Oh, BTW, our son is 18 and fits in the bunk just fine.  I have had other adults sleep in the bunks also without any issues!

We have a 2013 176T.  Both the wife and I sleep in the tent end and have never had any issues with size of the tent.  it also is stored at this moment but we may use it next weekend.  if so, i can get some measurements for you at that time. 
 
We agree that the 176T is the best of the best when it comes to our PODs.  The tent end makes the pod seem so large!  The U shaped mod is the best and makes the "dinning area" so much more user friendly.  We also dumped the large heavy table and have a light weight fold up table in its place. 
 
We have not done any mods to the bunks as we use them periodically.  When not, the top bunk becomes all storage and the bottom is used by our son.
 
There are other mods that can be done to increase the amount of storage in the POD.  You can find many of them here if you look.  So many great ideas!  Just need to put them to use! 
 
Hope that you find one!  We really enjoy ours and would do it again!

Found the bunk mod right off. That's puts a new perspective on looking at this model. With only a half bunk on top, bottom bunk becomes useful for an adult and top bunk (half) becomes storage. I guess that might be something to post in the thread on 'what we'd like to see' in a pod.

We came from a 26 foot popup, but we specifically wanted to get away from wet tenting and the noise of neighbors that are up at 7 am.  We like to sleep in.  Wink
