Yes, the risers would help with that situation since they will move the "arm" at the end of the axle away from the frame. I don't think the smart brake controllers would catch a single severed brake - both brakes are wired in parallel, so it would still detect a proper connection. Theoretically they could measure the resistance of the whole system which would change when one brake is removed, but there would be so many other factors affecting resistance I don't think that is possible. Multiple axles, different resistances of different brake models, etc.

Depending on the model controller you have, yes. If ours sees a problem it give a code.

Good catch!
I will be crawling under my 177 in the morning to see what's up. techtrek, does the installation of risers help the situation? Ours was delivered from FR with the risers factory installed, but from what I read, there may still be an issue, yes? (edit) Another thought- Would the electric brake controller module give any alert to a severed line? I know mine tells me whether I am connected or not, but there is not much in the literature to indicate the extent of its monitoring capabilities.

I encountered a similar problem, just before the wires run into the hubs they ran the wires between the frame and the axle where they could be pinched if the wheel bottomed out on the frame. Which it did, so it severed the wires. Noticed it when I installed my risers.
