Well our trip has been fantastic. We left the Phoenix area last week and are now in Salt Lake City. We are on our way to Yellowstone for the summer!!Our Pod is a Hood River Edition and I have to say it looks COOL! We are averaging 16 mpg!!! The pod doesn'teven know it is gpoing up the mountains!! The 2of us and our Yorkie are finding our rolling home is just right!

I don't think that there is a commercial bike rack-extender hitch that could handle the Pod tongue weight and/or pod tow weight. I have seen them on tow vehicles towing light weight trailers. But I doubt that they can handle a Pod. If you buy one, make sure that you get written confirmation that the rack-extender can handle the Pod. You will probably have to have it for the follow-up legal proceedings.

Welcome. The rear of the pod isnt rated for more than the weight of two bikes, confirmed by someone here recently.

I've taken my spare off and replaced the hitch with a cross camper stabilizer with a 2" receiver in order to carry a scooter. The spare will still fit between the scooter and the camper. You can probably do the same with a bike carrier. Be sure to balance the weight on the front of the camper, so it's not too light. I'm considering adding an extra LP bottle. pat

I know what you are asking. We tried that with our new Hyundai Santa Fe and fold down. There was too much space between car and hitch. Now that we have just purchased an R pod, we are going to take the spare tire off the back, put it on top of the car, and put the bikes on the back of the pod using just a hitch bike rack. We are going to check out our theory later this week!
