Outbound's suggestion would be the better option. As Tidalwave remembered, you will have to reinforce the pod's rear hitch if you want to apply additional leverage and weight to it.
I suggest that you not permanently mount your generator. During use you'll want to get it off of the frame (which will transmit vibration into the pod) and as far away as possible to cut down on noise. I also highly recommend the Yamaha and Honda inverter-generators since they are very gas-efficient and quiet, but some of the smaller models will not run the pod's A/C or microwave.

About 75 pounds - vertical (not cantilevered).
If you're looking to carry a generator, how about on the tongue? I remember (quite a while ago) someone had the same idea as you and then discovered how little the rear hitch can hold. Instead, they removed their propane tank, mounted a carrier rack directly on the tongue and reinstalled the propane tank on the rack. There was enough room on the rack to carry their generator too.

Thanks for the responses. I will try to contact FR: R.Pod people and also take it to a hitch shop for an evaluation. Just thought it would be a great place to store a generator. John

A couple of threads from last year discussed how much the rear hitch could tolerate: a couple of bikes plus the bike rack. Several owners talked about having a local welding shop install a completely new hitch with a much higher rating. I remember one owner who found that his Pod hitch was starting to crack even tho' he only hauled a couple of bikes. I haul my bikes and Pod tire in the rear of my PU. I don't trust the Pod hitch. Barely able to carry my Pod Tire, if that.

My understanding is that rear hitch was designed to hold bikes, but I don't know if it will support everything you want to put back there. The only email contact I have is from Susan who works in the warranty area, but she may be able to give you an answer: sthornburg@forestriverinc.com

We have a question. Does anyone know how much the Rear Hitch on the 182G will hold? We are thinking of putting a small rack that could hold a generator and a small gas can. Or does anyone know whol to contact at FR R.Pod either via e-mail or phone to ask? Many thanks John
