Topic: screen door cover? (dog proof) Posted: 29 Aug 2010 at 9:25am |
we found a screen on Amazon that did the trick to protection the screen on the door. Not a perfect fit, but keeps the airflow, without the risk of the dogs going through it. One of them loved it and sat in front of it whenever we were in the camper.

You may need to consider working at home with crate training methods if you think the dog is panicking in the crate before traveling.
You may want to talk to your vet about possible separation anxiety. Some animals will be very difficult to confine.

I take it he is not used to being crated! If he chewed the plastic he would shred a fabric one. We are spoiled because our pooch was trained in puppyhood. To her, crate is home and her safe place, as she eats in it, sleeps in it, and travels in it. It is tough for a dog who is not used to being confined to adapt to staying in a crate. Of course it is tougher for the folks to deal with destruction of the pod! Good luck to you!

He's a "chug", Chihuahua + Pug. We use a large travel carrier, with the plastic on 3 sides and metal mesh door. There are teeth and claw marks around every hole, he doesn't like it!

We use a plastic kennel in the TV and a folding steel framed canvas crate in the pod. It sits on the bed in the 171 with plenty of room for a human next to it. I have seen dome shaped soft sided kennels that look neat to fit the curved back wall, but don't want to spend the extra money for one now. It works fine for our 20# fox terrier who is accustomed to sleeping in her crate at home. Don't know about a larger dog. Guess a bigger folding crate could be set up on the dinette bed.

That sounds like a lab, which is what Hercules is. The Chihuahua's I can leave in the Pod for extended period with no problem, No Mess or Destruction. What kind of kennel (cage) do you use in the Pod and Size. I thinking of getting a hard shell versus wire size large.

Hercules was not happy we left him in the r-pod, not only did he take the Plexiglass out of the door, also torn up the screen. I can replace the screen (no big deal) and take another cut on the Plexiglass so it has a better fit.
The whole reason we didn't take him on the bike ride, was because he was showing signs of his hips hurting (i.e. couldn't jump into the truck or get up into the r-pod. Had to be carried) Well he was able to jump up on the sofa and take a couple of bites out of the back curtain.
This is normally my best behaved dog, something must have really got to him. So if he is to go with camping again, I'll have to bring him a kennel for times he might be alone in the R-pod.

I had a little maltipoo that had to be left in my pop-up while I attended a "country" wedding way back when and she did not like it at all. The normally well-behaved sweetie chewed a huge corner of something (cant remember what) and tore the inside of the door to rags. I always take a kennel with me now for my even smaller baby....just in case. He seems to be okay with it (have only used it tenting and in cool weather)....he goes in and sleeps the entire time.
