Topic: Hoping to soon own a 2015 R-Pod 178 Posted: 27 Aug 2014 at 3:56pm |
Just sold our Toyota Itasca and now hoping to buy an R-Pod 178 to tow behind our 2005 Jeep Liberty 2.7 Diesel. We currently have quote from Chilhowee RV near Knoxville for $17,569.52 which includes taxes, sway bar, brake controller install, TV, convection oven. We're putting $10K down and financing the rest.
Would any of you experienced R-Poders care to weigh in with your opinions of that dealer, price, any cautionary notes for what to keep an eye out for during walk-through and test drive? Sure would appreciate it.

Welcome to Podding and to the forums. Not familiar with that dealer but the price seems just a bit high in my opinion.
As far as what to look out for when you do your walk through, if you'd like to send me a message with your email I can send you a file of everything you can and should check there at the dealer. It's a comprehensive checklist of things to look for and test out.
Welcome to the local Podding area as well. Lot of us in the surrounding area get together a few times a year for Rallies!

For that price, it should include all or most of the accessories available, such as axle risers, R-Dome, etc. Shipping costs can add considerably to the price of a pod, but even here in Florida I paid less and all accessories except for the bike rack were included in the price. If financing charges, title and registration fees, and similar other costs are included, the disparity may not be all that great.

I purchased my 2013 178 hood river edition for 17,500. A fair price in my book, although it didn't come with sway bars or the r dome, love the trailer, hope you love yours as much as we do:))
P.s. Torque the lug nuts before every trip, have read some people have lost their wheels, better to be safe Than sorry, happy podding!!

I agree with Kymooses and Sleepless that the price is high. We just got a 171 which I know is a little less than a 178 but not that much less. We ended up buying an r-pod 171 from Couch's RV Nation. They are selling the 178 for $13,835 fully loaded. I believe they also do financing. And they deliver for a small fee that depends on the miles they have to bring it. Ours should be here tomorrow morning. It has the risers, tv, microwave/convection, r-dome, battery & box, full propane, the green package which is set up for solar, the interior package and the exterior package which includes the exterior shower. We personally had a bad experience with Chilhowee RV and we won't go back there ever.

Thanks all. Good advice all around. We have done more phone shopping and will not buy from Chilhowee. Looks like Crouch's is our best choice in terms of cost. We will continue with our reading on the Forum before we drive up to pick up our Pod. Have privately sent Kymooses our email for his checklist for walk through.

Okay, here's another question. When you all have purchased R-pods at a distance from home, where did you take them to be serviced? We have been told that we can take it to any Forest River Dealer, but does it have to be one who carries the R-Pod models?

No it does not need to be a dealer that sells Rpods. Actually the dealers that sell Rpods get a bit whiney when you bring them a Pod that they didn't sell. Our closest Forest River dealer blew me off for an emergency problem that cropped up 2 months into ownership(defective regulator)& they don't sells Rpods. They couldn't look at it for a month & "probably couldn't get the part for 3 weeks". I called Brannon at Couch's & had one in my hand the next day. The offensive dealer will never sell me anything. We have new Camping World that opened nearby, so I'll get any warranty work performed there.

We purchased our 2015 178 in June. Prices are higher here in Ontario but we love the Pod. We have a WDH with sway bars and it is perfect. Had the lift kit put on and think they should all come at this height. We have the Dome and it is relatively easy to assemble. Our walk thru was extensive and they even had the Dome set up. Campkins RV is our dealer and I would recommend them to people in our area. I hope your experience is equal to ours. Rick
