Greetings and salutations fellow enthusiasts! Just returned from our first trip with our 2012 176T. LOVE IT! A few questions for the masses...
1. Should I keep the Pod plugged in to a household outlet via the supplied power chord (and adapter)? 2. Which switches should I keep on or off with WFCO Ultra III Distribution Center? I simply want to maintain the battery to maximize it's life. I have no plans of keeping anything on or running when not in use. I appreciate any input. Many thanks. Tony in Breckenridge. |

If you do nothing, your propane detector alone will deplete your battery in about two weeks.
Between trips, you should either (1) disconnect your battery or (2) plug in your r-pod. If you choose to disconnect your battery, you may find installing a cut-off switch to be handy. They're available at many automotive or marine stores. If you choose to plug in your r-pod, its really up to you to determine what you turn off. I'd probably make sure that the fridge was off (unless you want to keep condiments cold between trips) and turn off the water heater (if you've got it on electric), but that'd be about it. The WFCO will take care of the battery.

I keep mine plugged in all the time, when not is use. I also keep the frig on electric that entire time. I like to use the R-Pod as an extra living space when it's not on the road camping.

Ours gets plugged in as soon as we return home and usually the fridge stays on in ours also. No sense moving condiments back and forth between refrigerators all the time.

I agree with the plug in group. We keep our plugged in, the refreg on and the water heater off. Right now we have the vent on and the windows open. We miss figured this weekend while at the beach on the amount of time to cook brownies in the convection oven and smoked them. 💩. Who new you could make a smoke bomb out of brownies. Turned out to be a really good frisbee. 😄

Welcome, PODinBreck. If you decide to disconnect the battery, you must re-connect it once a month and plug the pod in overnight to recharge the battery. Even completely disconnected they will self-discharge, especially in the warm months. You can get away with doing it every 2-3 months over the winter. Another option is to leave the battery in your garage and use a good 3-stage car battery charger. Also don't forget to charge it overnight before and after a trip.

We leave her plugged in and all systems live. More than once we have spontaneously camped in the drive, or had friends that didn't want to drive home late and let them stay out there..
I carried condiments in once. once. |
