We are looking at one as a tow vehicle and I noticed they are seldom mentioned for that use here. Any reason? Thanks! Great forum!

i think any 1/2 ton truck is going to be the best for a tow vehicle. Lots of folks here go with mid size vehicles and anti sway and weight distribution hitches. I prefer the full size option (tundra) and just hook up and go.

    I tow with a 2010 Ram 1500 with the Hemi. I use a weight distribution and anti sway in one, the Fastway E2 6000. I wouldn't tow with out it, have done both (with and without), and with the peace of mind using one, makes for a more relaxed drive.

    Not sure which Ram you have, but I have a friend who tows a 5500 pound trailer with the 4.7 liter V8 Ram with no problems. And I tow a 3000 pound R-Pod with a Hemi, and the truck doesn't even slow down for hills.

I tow with a 2014 Ram 1500 quad cab 5.7L hemi 4x4. The truck has no problem pulling or stopping my 179 pod. I have a fiberglass cap on the truck as well as pullout bed drawers in the bed. I normally have a canoe on the roof and two bikes along with the "normal" amount of camping gear that finds its way into the truck for a 2-3 week trip.

A couple of things I have noticed with the Ram. First the Rams coil springs give a lot of rear drop when you hitch the trailer up. So you may want to consider using a WDH to move some of the tongue weight forward for a more level ride. I don't have a WDH but I do have a friction sway control mounted on the hitch the trailer just bounced around too much without it. Second gas mileage will be about 12-13mpg when towing.
