Hello Folks,

We've only had our 179 for a couple of months, and we're trying to decide on dishes to leave in the unit. They would need to be tough (we have young children), but also microwavable. Nordic Ware makes a line, but they are plain white and wife would prefer something with more color. What do you folks use? Thanks!

We have used Corelle Ware in our 177 for nearly 6 years.  They have been dropped, I know they are safe for microwaves (even though we don't have one in ours), and when we purchased our set in 2011, had a lot of different patterns.  Will check on google to see if they are still made.

Yes, they are available and come in many different patterns.  Either go to Corelle website or get cheaper prices on Amazon or similar.

Love Corelle.  But unless they've changed (and doubt they have) be aware if you drop one onto concrete and it does break it won't just break into a couple of pieces or so - it will explode into millions of pieces including tiny shards that love to embed themselves into your feet.   They are extremely tough, but not totally break-proof.  Still a good choice.

We've traded campers but still have the same Corelle dishes in beige so they matched in all of them.  If we need to reheat something we put it in one dish or bowl and turn another one upside down on top to nuke it.  No splatter and it heats better.

We picked a set of Corelle dishes at the outlet store. We have used Corelle for years at home. While they are not unbreakable, they will survive dropping in most circumstances that don't involve concrete. They are relatively light, especially when compared with stoneware. We started off with the Butterfly Gold. We have since changed as patterns are discontinued. The one we chose for our R-Pod is https://smile.amazon.com/Corelle-Livingware-Stitch-16-pc-Dinnerware/dp/B00E01YUDI/ref=sr_1_80?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1478529206&sr=1-80&keywords=corelle&refinements=p_n_feature_two_browse-bin%3A366865011 - Folk Stitch . We chose it for the combination of colors that complement the R-Pod and for the stitch, which is my wife's sewing hobby.

We tend to use paper plates with the Correlle as an under plate for support.  Easier than doing dishes in the midget sink.

We have a bigger sink (one of my mods) and a better faucet to go with it (another mod). Space for doing dishes isn't a problem but keeping water use down is something which we are still learning.
