Well, we are ready to pull the trigger on a new 178 and are totally happy with our decision. We are stepping down from a 23 foot Thor that we have pulled many happy miles (well over 30,000) but we are finished with our three month trips and wanted something smaller and lighter so we could go down to a one car family. The Thor is sold and the truck is next. We should pull it home either Thursday or Friday this week so we can begin figuring out where to put everything. Pictures and travel adventures to be posted soon.

Congrats.  Three month trips, you really get around!

We had some great travels, the last one took us from here on Whidbey Island all the way to New Orleans and then back home. It was quite a trip and just a bit over 10,000 miles. Custer SD was one of our favorite stops on this trip. We have done just about every state in the Tahoe except the eastern seaboard. We are looking forward to shorter trips now so we can see more of our local area.

We went over and made the final arrangements (sounds a little gruesome doesn't it) to buy our 178 and do another look over to make sure it was what we wanted. Picked a few nits and finalized the add ons. Doing the paper work we were pushed 3 times to buy the extended warranty and I refused to buy it. They are still offering it to us up until the time we pick it up on Thursday. Almost $2000 for a four year add on warranty just seemed to be too much. After we got home I looked up the company"Warrantech" and was not too impressed with the BBB rating. Has anyone purchased an extended warranty they were pleased with. Four years with our previous trailer and no issues other than the microwave dying. Appreciate any input.

Updated the original post with a picture in the Pods temporary parking spot (until we take it out that is). We will spend a week or so packing and seeing what we need for storage and then out for a shakedown cruise. Very happy campers for sure!

Congrats! We just recently purchased our new 178 and love it! I did purchase the extended warranty but just wanted a piece of mind with everything. We "upgraded" from a popup and really do not have any experience with trailers.

That is great! We picked up our new 178 last Monday and just spent our first 2 days and nights in it first of this week. We love it so far and are heading out tomorrow to Charlottesville KOA for a few. No extended warranty here.. Only problem we discovered so far was that the dealer had the bypass valve open on the hot water heater. We fixed that at the campsite. We hope you guys will enjoy it as much as we have begun to.

This has probably been asked and answered before, but do all the new 178s have a fantastic fan cover and antenna on street side now or is that just a HR edition? Just curious.

And congrats to Phil, Jim and Diane. Crazy fun, isn't it?

We are having a ball getting things ready to go for our first outing next week. We hope to have the time beforehand to try our hands at putting the R Dome up. So far, everything is working great. The only mod so far was to cut the dinette plywood under the cushion to make it much easier to access the storage there. Many more mods to come as I also enjoy wood working.

Fred, our 2014 178 has the fan and antenna on the curb side. The fan is above the bath and so it's interesting if it is street side on the HR. You are very observant. Jim

Psikes, have fun with the R Dome the first time out of the box. We set ours up first time at the campsite and it took us awhile to get it all right. Main problem was that the bead on the pod side would pull out of the channel for maybe 12 to 15 inches. We found that if we tightened the rafter poles too tightly, it would pull out. I heard they opened up the channel a bit more to facilitate sliding the bead in but maybe it's too loose now? We had to loosen the rafter tension on the tent to solve it. Anyone else experiencing this? Jim

The R Dome went up pretty easy for us. Less than 30 minutes start to finish and that was with pictures of the process along the way. I like it!

I'd appreciate it if one of the new owners would take a picture of the roof, and antenna in particular. I'm curious if the method of caulking on my new 178 is typical or if I have something that should be reworked.

Thanks!

It would be more meaningful if you were to post a picture or 2 of your roof.  What do you question about the caulking on your pod?

If by chance you mean a ton of raised putty looking caulk all around it then that is normal.  Otherwise if you can explain what yours is, perhaps we can help better.
