Please allow us to introduce ourselves.  We recently bought a barely used 2010 R-151, and have already taken it out for two weekend trips.  We've named our Pod "Boots" because we had to upgrade to a heftier vehicle for towing than my 2006 Jeep Wrangler, and ended up with a 2007 black Ford Explorer - that we named "Dora".  And since Dora's best little buddy is "Boots", there you have it!

We haven't made any major modifications yet, except to peel off the outside ribbon decals.  However, my husband is a technical theatre teacher and fine-scale modeler, so being the artistic type, he just wasn't satisfied with the way Boots looked.  We plan to take it old school, and "vintage" Boots up a bit, which is fine for me; probably with some black to match Dora.

We decided to get a travel trailer since we're not as young as we once were, and crawling in and out of a tent, and getting up from sleeping on an inflatable mattress, is not as easy as it once was.  Plus, we were just tired of dealing with tents in inclement weather, and the possibility of the local wildlife paying us a nocturnal visit (although in my 25+ years of camping in Florida I've never had that problem thank God!). I also was intrigued with the whole vintage trailer idea, and we figured this route would be quicker and easier for our introduction to a travel trailer than finding an old wreck of a trailer and trying to restore it.

Looking forward to reading your posts!

Getting together might be a good idea, but not so good when the snowbirds are nesting on the best camp sites.  I wonder how many "Florpods" or pods from neighboring states would be interested.

Paige, I was referring to those snowbirds that don't own a home in Florida, but stay here all winter in a choice site at our better campgrounds.  You don't fall within the intent of my use of "snowbirds."

We pick up our new pod at Lazy Days in Seffner on or about November 18.  While in the area, my wife and I are thinking about spending a night or two in (or near) Venice if we can find a reasonably priced campground with full hookups.  Any suggestions?

What would everyone say to meeting at Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont?  They have 60 new RV sites with 30/50amp and water, with a dump station.

I could start a dedicated thread for people to sign up for it and suggestions.

I have to say after reading about your upcoming meet, I am very jealous.  Here in Oregon, I am preparing to have the wheel bearings repacked after a great second season of camping.  Then winterizing and covering it for the winter.  Local weather is cool and damp and our warm season is about done.  I guess over where you are, just about any month is a camping month.  Very jealous.  Have a great time.  Safe Travels.

We are interested, but not full time Floridians. We will be in Florida for just a coupe of weeks in October,,,then from mid January on through til May. We have a week lined up for the Keys in February.  We usually plan trips to the state parks depending on if anything is available. This year we might be a little limited as my hubbie is trying to line up hip surgery while we are in Florida.

Here are where our homes are as of now for the ones that are interested: Saint Augustine, St Johns, Stuart, Titusville and Ft Myers.  If someone has a paper map and could see where the middle of those points is we could better pick a state park.

I don't believe the couple in St. Johns have expressed their interest yet.  Perhaps more Floridians will be responding which could change our logistics.

Just a suggestion, but would it be better to decide on a tentative date or dates first, to see who will be able to attend?  Even picking a tentative month might be a good start.

How about November?  That would give some planning time.

I am also not going to be available.  We will be on an 8 day cruise the beginning of the month, our new 178 should be ready at Lazy Days the middle or the month and then we are heading for the Chicago area for Thanksgiving.  Meanwhile, we are trying to get all of our chores out of the way.

Kari and I were looking forward to meeting everyone.

We would be interested in a Pod gathering but its hard to add anything else to our schedule until after the holidays.  I know it is difficult to get a group of sites during the snowbird season but maybe setting the date out a little further, say sometime in March we could get more people to plan/arrange their schedules. I think this could be a great outing...pick the date & we will put it on our calendar.
