Does anyone use one of these with an Rpod 17. I have towed it some and it can search for a path it seems like. Will a hitch solve that problem.

A weight distribution hitch levels the the rig, trailer and tow vehicle, by distributing weight. Some have anti-sway built into them and some will not.

IS anyone towing without equalizer hitch . have a rpod 171 and a new 1500 truck 4x4

Yes, 15 years towing our 2011 177 using a basic Curt friction bar over 53,000+ miles through blizzards, sleet, hail, thunderstorms, and cross winds in excess of 25 mph without incident. Tow vehicles have included over the years and in order: '94 F-150 5.0L V-8,manual shift, '08 Explorer front wheel drive 4.0L, V-6 '13 Explorer front wheel drive 3.5L V-6, '11 F-150 5.0L V-8, and since 2020 a '17 F-150 3.5 V-6 with ecoboost. Really enjoyed the Explorers but wanted a bit more storage for when we go on month long trips boondocking for the most part. The big thing you want to remember is to have at least 10% of the total loaded weight of your 171 on the a-frame (tongue). Our 177 fully loaded with 36 gallons of water and prepped for a 30 day excursion weighs in at 2940 lbs. The minimum tongue weight (10% would be 294 lbs. on the tongue. I carry a Sherline tongue weight scale (current cost around $165 for a 0-1000# scale) and it reads 340# so I am at 11.6%, well over the minimum 10%, hence, no problems with sway.
