They have an expected life of 5 years.  After that that start beeping at odd times.
I just removed mine.  I only use the stove and open a window.
A new one is about 30 dollars.  I will replace it sometime.

What ppine said.

A small point though.  It's a Carbon Monoxide (CO) detector, not a Carbon Dioxide (CO2) detector.

It should be noted that carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless, and extremely toxic. It will displace oxygen in your bloodstream and once it's bound to your hemoglobin, it can NOT be removed. The only cure for CO poisoning is a transfusion, and quickly.

Always open a window when you run any propane device.
The refir is vented outside.
I do not run the furnace at night and only in really cold weather in the morning.
Mild exposure to CO means you need to get to fresh air.
Exposure can make you sleepy which is really dangerous.
