Has anyone ever seen a Aliner or A-frame camper set up staying overnight in a rest area where allowed? We are thinking about a Aliner for traveling from Tennessee to Florida and stopping at a rest area on our way. One time I remember a Aliner set up in a rest area during the daytime I think they were having lunch. With our other campers we stayed overnight in rest areas all the time but not sure how it would be in a A-frame camper. Thank you

I've seen them, but only in actual campgrounds.

I think it is all perception and a case by case basis. I know when we are traveling and just trying to get from point A to point B, we try to keep our parking lot and rest area stays less conspicuous; no awnings down, camp chairs out. With an Aliner or pop-up fully deployed, it looks like you are there for the duration. Just my thoughts.

We bought a 2023 Aliner Scout Lite it tows easily behind our Hyundai Santa Fe 4 cyl. engine. Big change from a full size camper like we are use to, it's like beds and cabinets on wheels. Very simple camper no plumbing, refrigeration or furnace, it's very basic, though it does have a AC. Now we need to figure out how to pack in such a small space. It's what I wanted something that can be easily towed easy to maintain and be parked under our carport. Our driving home through the mountains of north Georgia we averiged 22.5 mpg it's only 13 feet long back bumper to hitch and weighs empty about 1,300 pounds and being folded with low wind resistance it tows easily.

I answered my first question how it would be to stay in a rest area with a Aliner or A-frame camper. We left Tennessee Monday morning for central Florida and spent one night in a rest area with our Aliner and everything went great. The Aliner sets up in a minute and folds up in a minute and has not that bad of sound insulation. It's very easy to tow and we were averaging 23 mpg on the way down. As far as space  well it's a little crowded with limited floor space but has a fair amount of storage space. It comes with a 3,000 pound axle and weighing about 1,300 pounds that leaves 1,700 pounds of cargo capacity more than anybody would ever use. It's different from our past R-Pod 171 but I think the biggest advantage is that's easy to tow with our compact SUV Santa Fe Sport 2.4 engine.

I'm sure it's low profile when folded up helps a lot. Glad to hear it went well. FWIW, if you are looking for an overnight spot to just sleep, safely, Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's stores allow RV parking and some have designated RV parking. You are allowed to do a minimal setup, i.e. put slides out, unfold pop ups, etc.

Thank you that's good to know we pass a Bass Pro Shop just south of Chattanooga Tn. Yes folded down is only about 62" high it rides easily behind our Santa Fe Sport which is 66" high which helps us to get over 20 MPG.

Which only gives more evidence that the major factor in towing mileage is air resistance. I don't think we would be ready to downsize to an A-Liner so I limit towing speed to help reduce gasoline use just a bit.
