Recently in a very bad rainstorm we found water dripping from the a/c unit in our rpod 171. Then we hit a huge hole in the road and ruined a wheel (thankfully not the axle).

Today my hubby got up to caulk and discovered -

#1 the a/c unit had not been caulked at all. (More FR quality issues?)

#2 Hitting the hole had shifted the entire a/c unit to the side and back several inches.

It is VERY hard to shift the a/c unit so we think we'll just leave it in the new position and caulk it.

If that is not a good idea, can the roof be stood on to enable a good grip?

I had the same problem with my AC getting jarred loose. I can't remember exactly how it's held in place, but I do remember that it's a pretty phony system. After I moved it back into position and tightened it down, it came loose again a few weeks later. Since I never used it, I removed it and replaced it with a vent. The cool thing about that is how much light I now have in the kitchen area, plus more head room. If you choose to caulk it, use Dicor, and use it liberally.

I don't recommend just caulking it. Remove the inside shroud and you should find the bolts that tighten the unit in place. To remove the shroud, remove the filters. There are more screws in the inside shroud than you might think. Look carefully since some of them are not very visible. The reason there isn't caulk is that there should be a rubber seal that seals the opening when the unit is in place and the bolts are tightened. Caulk could potentially cause more problems than fixing it right in the first place.

Thanks for your responses. Since the rain came in BEFORE the a/c shifted, maybe the seal was defective(?). Whatever, we're sending the trailer into the rv shop to be repaired, hopefully, right.

Good call. Keep an eye on it, though, because once mine started working itself loose it became a chronic problem.
