We're picking up our RP189 this Friday. I can't believe the day is finally here. I wanted to create a list of everything I should check out while going over everything.  Can you experienced folks give me some pointers for my list?  Thanks everyone.

When the tech is showing you everything on the trailer, it is very overwhelming.  I tried to write it all down and when I got home, I had many, many questions.  Do the best you can to remember things during the "run-down", then get on the best forum (this one) and do research.  Chances are, you'll have the same questions someone else has had.  If you can't find it, ask questions.  The trailer "systems" is where you will have the most questions:  electrical, water supply, black/grey water tanks.

If you have a smart phone try doing a short video on the tech demonstration, they will be throwing a ton of info at you, probably wont remember it all.

On the Rpod FB site, I found a Forest River dealer PDI checklist. It looks to be the checklist the dealers are to fill out and send to Forest River.  I'll post it when I figure out how.

Leo hit it square on.  Record the presentation with the device you are comfortable with.  Make sure your battery is 'full'.  Welcome aboard to this fantastic forum!

+1 on Leo's idea. I'd video all you can as they do the walk through, and especially if you are getting a Weight Distribution Hitch, record them hooking it up for you. Congrats and welcome to the RPod family. ~PP

Thanks for everyone's feedback.  I plan to video as much as I can and my wife is a great note taker so hopefully we'll capture most of what is said.  As for the WDH, I'll be installing that myself right after taking possession of the camper.  I'll post a picture as soon as I can.

Your ahead of me, ours does not arrive till early June.

My wife and I looked at several, then I discovered the Forest River floorplan page.  For some reason  I went back late that night to look again.

"wait, that does not look like a dinette, it says "Sofa"

OMG thats the one! A quick trip to youtube confirmed that was exactly what we wanted.

Still looking at tow vehicles and shaking my head over prices. Even used seem priced pretty high. I'm sure we will figure something out.

Enjoy it, and pictures or it didn't happen!

You might look at used Tacomas. They last forever, and if it has the V6, will tow in the 6000-6500 lb range. A 5-year-old Tacoma might be around $20,000.

Tow Vehicles - Multitude of choices. Lot of us were reluctant to spend big bucks on new(er) vehicles. Would suggest to look for a TV around 6000 capacity. I tow with a 2006 model Silverado, there are folks on here with 90s models and I saw a picture the other day of a guy who had a 70s model Chevy. Of course area has a bit to do with condition of the used models. I'm also a pick up versus SUV fan.

we were going to upgrade from a Jeep Cherokee to a Grand Cherokee but the price was way to high as they force you to buy the highest lines to get the bigger engine for towing. Then the dealer told us about left over trucks.  We have saved a bundle buying a 2017 RAM truck.  Saved even more getting a diesel since it was not much more than the regular engine.  On TV they are still advertising left over Ford 150's.  So I recommend searching around for a new 2017 model.  There may be some left at 20% off MSRP!!

We picked up our RP189 last Friday and it was in great shape. The demo was a bust though.  First it was pouring rain and the guy doing the demo didn't know much about the Rpod. He told me the grey tank empties in to the black tank. He also mentioned having to take the anode out when the water heater is running on electric. That didn't make sense to me either. That's okay, because I've already learned quite a bit about the Rpod from this forum and I'll be reading through all the equipment manuals too. It really towed great. We're really happy with it and can't wait for our first trip.  Now we just need the weather to cooperate.

Congrats! Yeah he's wrong about the tanks and the anode. Also always remember to release the pressure on the hot water tank before you take out the anode or it will shoot out  like a bullet!
Enjoy you new pod!!

That has to be the worst orientation I have heard of. I'm glad you are here to get proper information. I'm glad my dealer's orientation was nothing like that.

Don't be afraid to remove screws open areas, look and see how its made.  They're really easy to work on and do upgrades.

I'm not afraid to take things apart to see how they work or fix things.  I've been doing that my whole life.  Another thing that bothered me was they pointed me to a website for all the Rpod specific documentation. They mentioned all their documentation was electronic. And I'm okay with that but when I checked the website I found its a bunch of documents that talk very generically about travel trailers nothing specific. So that will be my quest to create some for my RP189.  I'll also be combing through what I've found on this site as well. If I create anything of value, I'll post it for others to share.

I'm anxious to get started but this weather is something else. Yesterday was cold and very windy. Lost a few trees and today we woke up to snow. Where's the warm weather???

ZuBrew, yep, the demos can vary in quality for sure. We had an okay tech with our purchase....an long-time RVer who had been there, done that. It was still overwhelming. And FR's RPOD owner's manual?? They're still working on, I guess.

techntrek has already started (2011) an on-line instruction manual for this forum. There is already a lot of great info but still some blanks to be filled in. Please don't hesitate to share information! We all need it! Check this our if you haven't already: http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1723&title=creating-an-instruction-maintenance-manual
