Topic: Install 30 amp service at home...Posted: 28 Jun 2017 at 7:31am |

Mine cost about $150 in material for close to 100' of run. I have a small weatherproof 30A panel on the side of the garage, and there was a little plastic conduit involved.

Good points guys! I should have clarified that I (had) put in all new 20 amp circuits (a bunch of quads and outside gfci) with my garage renovation. Garage has it's own panel. So, yes, all new wiring...to code. Good catch!
![]() ![]() I should add. I did think about putting in a dedicated 30Amp when I did the renovation, but I move the pod around a bit from driveway to back-by-the-wood-pile, so a few 20amp plugs made more sense - and I use a fair amount of power hungry tools at times. Advice from electrician.

20 amp circuits require 12 awg wire. 15 amp circuits use 14 awg. With a 20 amp breaker the 14 awg can get pretty hot and the breaker may not trip. We put in a 30 amp outside plug on the side of our garage and it works great and it wasn't expensive.

+1 - do not modify an existing circuit. If you want a 30 amp 120 service add it.

Do not change your breaker from 15 to 20 amps.you would also have to change the gage of the wire from the breaker to the outlet.this breaker swop could burn your house down

+1. Installed right under my breaker panel. Did it myself. Cord reaches from my driveway. The only other thing is blocking the garage door from closing that last inch and pinching the cord.

I had a 30 amp RV outlet installed and I believe it cost around $200. The closest 110v outlet required using an extension cord as well as an adapter. I wasn't comfortable with the arrangement and I still remove the battery when I winterize.

That would charge battery. Remember you have to maintain battery, either charged or disconnected, not good to just charge prior to travel, then let it set connected until next trip. That's why I keep Pod with power attached and use on board charger.

I wire them in series, and put a 24V charger on them about once or twice a month when we're not using the pod. It's a smart charger, so it trickles in juice until the batteries are "full", then it waits a while for the voltage to decay to the point where they need a little more juice. I will usually let it work on them overnight, then I put a note on them to remind me of the last time I juiced them up.

Hi Pod People!
What do you think of getting a battery charger (auto shop) to charge the batteries before a trip. Just plug into the wall? Will that work? I think they cost around $60.00.
