Another "mod" we have made to our 178 is to the small shelf under the TV. We added a board with a galley railing... just gives a little more storage room. We will be adding another shelf, similar to this one, above the microwave.

We have made a few "mods" to our 2016-178. I have seen several shelves added above the bed. We wanted ours to be removable and found that the window valance is very sturdy. We reinforced the back of a section of wire closet shelving with a 1x2 board and attached it with the standard shelving mounting brackets. We put the rubber caps on the ends to keep from damaging the walls. We take it down as part of our tear-down at the end of a trip. Pictures below:
My pillows are against the wall, of course the bed doesn't face that way this picture is looking from underneath |

I, for one, would like to see your privacy mod. The wet bath is so small .

I realize you posted this two years ago, but we are thinking about making a mod like this on our 176T. We were planning on making two drawers, in order to keep the upright braces where they are (or fairly close to where they are), for strength. (Their current placement is 12" apart.) Would you mind sharing how you moved the upright cross-braces, and whatever other modifications you made in order to accommodate this wonderfully wide drawer? Thanks!

We simply mounted the toilet paper holder to the inside of the bathroom door. When showering, we leave the door open (keeping the toilet paper dry) and pull the curtain across the door opening. Leaving the door open gives us more elbow room to shower. Close the door when using the toilet and the TP is there, nice and dry! When I have time, I will show you the mod I came up with to improve on privacy.

As there are only 2 adults here, we just remove the roll, and if one of us forgets, we have a good laugh.

My solution was the Oceanair Dryroll. I know toilet paper is cheap and this thing was expensive, but after about the 5th messy/soggy mess-of-a-roll because my kids didn't remove the toilet paper before showering, or took TP into a wet bath and set it down, I decided a more elegant solution was needed.
Not idiot-proof though, if you don't actually close it before showing you'll still have the same mess, and yes, my youngest has done that too. So there's no silver bullet. ![]() ![]() |
