Has anyone moved the axle assembly rearward for better towing?
Is this a DIY or Dealer type procedure? Thanks in advance!

That would be a significant undertaking which would have a definite ripple effect that would possibly involve the relocation of the trailer tanks, plumbing, definitely electrical ( at a minimum electric brake wiring) and could almost certainly affect tongue weight and weight distribution in general. All of that said, given time and money, anything is possible and the idea certainly intrigues me.
Perhaps we should start with what model Rpod you have and what are the towing characteristics you would like to change. Lots of cumulative years of towing experience on this forum. Maybe we can help.

As an old friend always said to me: "Anything can be built." That said, I would go along with what gpokluda said.

We have a 2025 Rpod 206. The great floor plan was the deciding purchase factor. The light tongue weight from the factory of 415 pounds worried me then and is now cause for some buyer's remorse.
4719 dry weight with 415 tongue weight - not a good way to start. The sway in any wind and "trailer pushing" on curves is not fun. Towing with a Canyon mid-size truck, 7000# max tow capacity and Andersen WDH. To remedy so far: Hitch coupler slightly below level Tow with full fresh water tank which is located ahead of the axles (30 gallon) Bolted a 42 pound weight on tongue (suitcase weight from lawn tractor) Propane always full Black/gray tanks always empty Tools, jack, heavy stuff in forward exterior storage bay Yet to try: Relocate spare tire from rear bumper to truck bed - no $ Add second battery and/or propane tank to tongue $$$ Move axle assembly rearward $$$$$$$$ Replace truck with 1/2 ton full size $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and may not solve problem I think Forest River just crapped the bed on this chassis design. |

The unloaded tongue weight at 8% would worry me as well. You might want to invest in a tongue weight scale so you know how much weight is actually on the ball hitch ($75-175 depending on brand.) I bought a Sherline 0-1000 lb scale so I could see the weight change with shifting things around on my R-Pod in my driveway. A cheaper option is take your trailer to a CAT scale and weigh your vehicle hitched (trailer wheels off the scale) and unhitched to determine the weight on the ball.
