Great place in winter. I have backpacked there for New Year's.
We hiked spring to spring, no trails. Below freezing at night, warm days. Great place but not in summer. Sonoran Desert.

We've tent camped in Big Bend a couple of times. Once our tent was ransacked by javelina (we left a PBJ in a bag by accident) and another time our tent, a really nice North Face, was flattened by the wind. We're hoping to get there next spring in the 179 for the wild flowers. The hot springs are to die for!

No we didn't. The McDonald Observatory was booked up for days in advance.. Some folks we met had made reservations for their trip back, as we thought we might if we passed through on return. We went a different route..

Big Bend National Park was a goal on this trip! The park is HUGE and so diverse in terrain, vegetation and weather. Surprised us to how cold Texas can be in winter! No at all what I thought.. 21° both mornings in Chisos Basin!
