Sorry for stirring the pot then vanishing. We were in Joshua Tree for 2 days without cell coverage.

Gray valve was definitely open. I noticed it because I heard it draining. Conceivable it had been left open from before i guess. So do they not allow trailer side out door showers in NC?  It looks like, technically, it's prohibited. I don't know about other states, but I would suspect that NC is not unique in this matter. Gray water must be treated before it can be used. Since it is impractical to treat it in the RV, in NC, it must be discharged into an approved wastewater system.

Just a quick ? Did you see them dumping, or maybe the cap was not replaced from last time dumping.. The reason I ask is the valve appears to be in the closed position just observation

I don't think you are overreacting. Bad etiquette - YES! Possibly/probably contrary to Park rules.

Personally, I don't want to walk and live in anybody's waste water. Even campgrounds without hookups or dump stations usually have some provision for the disposal of gray water (dishwashing, etc.).

If the shower drains into the gray water tank, then there is a danger of e. coli being spread, among other diseases.  Since the gray and black water drain converge in the drain outlet, it is really impossible to drain the gray water without washing out black tank residue with it, including e. coli, unless you scrub the drain Y with bleach or other disinfectant.  It's not a good idea to drain that sort of thing into a camp ground and in most places is illegal. 

Dish water, is more innocuous, but still has risks; however, as a practical matter, many tent campers don't have a gray water tank and end up throwing the wash and rinse water onto the ground.  ...and the ants and other creepy crawlies have a field day picking up the pieces.

Not good etiquette, legality depends on local and state laws. Some areas are very strict. Issue to me is gray water can contain food particles that attract unwanted pests. From bugs to animals. Staying at Meteor Crater RV Park in AZ. In the electric/water only section (no sewer). Came out of the R-Pod this morning to see the camper next to me draining their gray tank directly onto the gravel.

Relieved it's not the black tank! But I can't believe this is good campground etiquette. Am I overreacting?
