Yes the Grand Caravan's capacity is 3500 lbs. The 171 we had was a 2010. We got it in 2009 and kept it for 5 years. We traded it in towards our 2015 179.

Our Caravan has the pentastar 3.6 puts out 283 horse power. Tows pretty well. We usually get 13.5 per gallon while driving in Vermont, 14-16.5 when driving from the Massachusetts border down to Cape Hatteras in NC.  All depends on wind.

I'll check out the models, that's exactly what I needed.

I'm not very fluent on all the floor plans.

In Canada (Ontario)  I think our selection is limited as well.

I'll have to take it easy as you say, but it's a holiday and I'm retired now so not in a rush to do

anything.

I'll keep looking for the used one out there.

One got away on me the other weekend. I was helping one of my sons on his house.

By the time I could get away to see the unit it had been sold.

Oh well, it wasn't meant to be.

Is the tow capacity of your Caravan about the same ~3500 lbs?

We tow our 179 with our Dodge Grand Caravan, up and down the east coast without any difficulty.

We had a 171 a few years back and upgraded to the 179 for the slide out for a bit more room.

Hi DUER and welcome! Based on what you are describing as a want/desire in an R-Pod, it sounds as though you are looking for a model 178. It has a front dining area, rear sleeping, and a slide-out kitchen.

As far as your tow vehicle, I would also suggest a combination WD hitch with sway as well. Like you, I will be towing with a vehicle with a 3500 lbs. tow rating (haven't towed it yet...I am waiting on delivery of a new 178) however, there are a few folks on here that are currently or have in the past, towed with a similar vehicle. It would be desirable to have a bit more towing capacity, but you can make do so long as you have the proper set up and do not expect to tow at full highway speeds!

Now finding a used R-Pod...I don't know that I could be much help there. During my extensive (1+ year), I found that used R-Pods were almost at the same price point as a new ones! Not to say there aren't good deals to be found out there, I just didn't see them. If you shop around and are willing to travel, you can find some really good deals on new units.

My wife and I are looking at used RPods and it is a challenge to find one, (I take this to be a good sign).

We think we would like an older 2008 to 2011 unit.

We want the queen bed and a slide out kitchen would be nice, since my wife has seen a few.

Also, for cost reasons and resale should we not like camping as much as we think used may be the way to go.

What models and years would you folks suggest we look for please?

As mentioned in Ontario there are NOT a lot of used RPods with queen bed, we are looking both at dealers

on Kijiji and Craigslist...

My TV is a KIA Sorento 2.0 L Turbo with a 3500 LB Tow Cap. I was thinking that an RPod would work for us with a WD hitch... I had a light weight Taylor Coach that weighed about 1000 LBs. No brakes came with the trailer, nor were any needed. We pulled it from Ontario to Cape Breton Island last summer.

Along with our 90 lb golden doodle Lucy. We did not like having to make up the bed every night. Thus our quest for a permanent queen bed unit..

To keep this first post short I'll stop right here. This gives you people my very limited camping back ground and what I'm looking for (I think)...
