No, it can't be retrofit to a 2016. The reason is that the 2017 models have a reinforced wall to which the awning bolts. The 2016 models lack this reinforcement. The only way to retrofit the awning is to replace the whole wall with a new one that has the reinforcement.

Ours will be getting this modification due to the accident which took place in December. In order to repair the damage, the whole wall will be replaced. We will have a unique 2016 RP-179 when it is done, because it will have the awning installed when we go to pick it up from the factory.
