I went with tow mirrors that are available for full size GMs. The upper mirror is power and heated, the lower mirror is manual and convex. I can see the lane on either side. The whole assembly is extendable should you need it. The only thing I am passing is semis and slow motor coaches. I really appreciate when they blink their headlights to tell me I am clear to pull in. For passing I find my two sidemirrors are the primary inputs.  The rearview camera is useful as a third input, but not for passing. You can see who’s comingup on you once you get calibrated to the distance distortion. I find it usefulto see who might be directly behind the camper and to verify the bikes are traveling well. It’s also marginally useful when backing into a camping spot.That said, my wife wanted something to ensure no kids are behind the trailer.For that it’s 100% effective and therefore, worth the money.

EDIT: Having read the linked article it seems they were confusing cameras and the ultrasonic sensors found on many cars. I have both and each has it's benefits and limits.

Mmmm... I have done internet searches of using backup cameras for passing vehicles, without success.

Probably their failure for this purpose is common knowledge to everyone but me.

For newbies, I have concluded not to buy a backup camera because it's useless for passing vehicles. I may be wrong, but this link seems to support this.

Thanks very much for responses, however questions remain ...

Is the 120 degree observation arc enuf to show that I'm past a vehicle?? A 180 deg view (fish eye) would be better, I suspect, but is not available.

I know you generally 'get what you pay for', but $400 or $500 is steep to pay for such a minimalist need, and I don't even know what a Bluetooth is (I know, pathetic), so interference with electronic things is not hi on my list of concerns.

I guess my concern about passing vehicles doesn't seem to be shared by many of us(?).  Oh well, I don't pass many people anyway, since I always drive below the nominal speed limit.

Yes. It's pretty much plug and play. The only thing you have to do is decide how you want to power the camera. The easiest is to wire it into the clearance lights but then you have to turn on the parking/running lights for the camera. I powered mine from the trailer 12V system through a toggle switch so I could run it without turning on the running lights. Pretty easy either way. The thing I like about the Voyager is there's no interference and plenty of signal strength. The RVS system I had got totally wiped out by the Bluetooth system in my 2013 TV.

I did a review of my Garmin RV 770 GPS, which I added to my 2006 Silverado. I added the BC 30 backup camera to it, to have capability and it adapts to the GPS. It has capability to add an additional camera to rear of TT, and then you can select what view you want, TV or TT. I've tried others including from RVS and there's no comparison. More expensive but it never disappoints. Several fellow campers have installed the Voyager and no complaints so far.

Just back from our first trip of year. Driving back, I realized that my biggest 'tension creator' was passing something and knowing when I'm safely past the vehicle.

I assume wireless rear view cameras meet this need and are practical(?).

If so, what rear view cameras are good for this purpose??
