Yeah, I might just stick with the bungee cord.  It's not that windy very often.

I for one would not like a door with left-hand hinges. If, for some reason, the door were to come unlatched while going down the road, a left-hand hinge would mean the force of the wind would open the door rather than help keep it shut. Given the construction of the door, I would think a rather large backing plate would be needed to spread the force enough to keep the catch for a T latch from ripping out of the door. That would need to be in place before the outer skin was put in place. The friction hinge does work well enough. Adding the bumper to the door bottom and/or the fender is sufficient to prevent the door from hitting the fender and damaging it.

We have a 2016 RP-179. When we purchased it, the fender was scraped where the door had been opened too far. It was replaced under warranty. To attempt to prevent that from happening again, I took some U channel rubber molding and used black silicone to glue it to the bottom of the door. Now, when the door is opened too far, the rubber hits the fender and not the metal of the door. I complained about this to Forest River, and saw that they had started putting a bumper on the fender. I had told them that the door may stay open, but it needs something to keep it from hitting the fender. I guess they thought it made sense.

So far, the friction of the door has held it open when I needed it to stay open. I have not tried having it open in strong winds. Even with a T latch, I don't think I would want the door open with a strong wind. With the window I installed, it is not needed for ventilation. I can open the window instead since I installed the rectangular window that can open and not the one like the new R-Pods have or the round porthole.

sorry kylekai, I didn't see pics when I replied. The 179 poses an issue with the fender. I have seen pics of mods where a rubber door stop was mounted that stopped the door from hitting the marker light and then bungee was used to secure door open. Does your model have the friction mechanism? I think you could still use a T latch, I would mount it as far out on fender as possible. Great hikes, nice warm weather and cool at night. Electricity but no water hookups.

One day was very windy and couldn't keep the door open on our 179 -- see below.  Any thoughts on how to keep the door open on windy days?
