If you wipe down the wall with 92% rubbing alcohol or with an alcohol prep pad (my wife uses them to do her diabetes blood sugar tests), then the command strips will stick much better. Yes, unfortunately.   I tried using a "short" moly bolt which turned out to be too long. I have a reminder to not do that again. I plugged the hole with a green cover and sealant.
