We have a 2013 Honda Ridgeline to pull our 177 and it works. On some hills we have to slow down but that has never been a problem with us. I began towing our 2017 RP-179 with a 2005 Dodge Dakota, 4.7L V8.  The combination handled just fine and worked great under "normal" conditions.  I felt that the 235 HP and 285 ft/lbs of torque was not quite enough for towing the pod in our mountainous western terrain.  We really noticed it going over the coastal range from Portland, OR, to the coast.  I mean, it was OK, but just did not have enough oomph to be comfortable.  It required high RPM and low speed to pull the hills and we felt we were a wart on the keister of progress.  This spring we switched to a 2017 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L Hemi.  Its 395 HP and 410 ft/lbs of torque combined with the eight speed transmission really worked well when we travelled from Spokane to Yellowstone over those steep mountain passes.  The engine/trans combination gets over 19 MPG when not towing and we averaged about 13 MPG over 1400 miles while crossing the high mountains twice.  We travel the freeways at 65 MPH which seems reasonble on the high speed insterstate highways out here.  Handling was excellent, even during a few hundred miles of towing without using our WDH.  I hope this information is helpful to you.]]> Sun, 17 Dec 2017 11:56:26 +0000 https://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=9559&PID=102998#102998 Tow vehicle : Considering a Honda Ridgeline... https://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=9559&PID=102851#102851 Author: LvyaRain

Has anyone had experience with pulling an Rpod with the Honda Ridgeline? 
Towing capacity for the Ridgeline is 5000 lbs, so it could pull an RPod.

We've had 3 different Tacomas over the years, and we've found that the rear springs get "soft" after a bit. On two of them we added super-springs, which helped out a bunch, especially when hauling any weight. If yours already has the super springs, then I might suggest updated shocks to dampen out any of the bounce. 

I've hauled well over 2,500 lbs in the box (not trailer) in a couple of our Tacomas, so I know they can handle weight. Also, they don't seem to run out of steam until they get up to ~~ 7,000 feet or so. We think they are great vehicles.

I'm towing along my 180 Pod just fine with my Tacoma. Just set ECT and manually shift the automatic over into 5th gear most of the time and I've had no problems pulling the mountains in NC, WVA. VA, and PA this summer. Sure sometimes I think a bigger truck with a larger engine would make towing easier, maybe, but so far so good. I would though like to figure out how to take some of the "bounce" out of towing. I use a WD hitch and anti-sway bar along with Super Springs Sumo Shock helpers but still to bouncy at times. Here you are again trashing the new Tacoma.  As I said in earlier posts, I tow a new 180 with a new Tacoma and it tows just as well as my Tundra I had with the 4.6 engine.  I have air bags on Tacoma and tow with out a WDH but use a sway control.
Either you were not set up right to tow the Tacoma or you didn't know how to use the ECT mode on the Tacoma.
Maybe you should just stop trashing the Tacoma and just be happy with the 4.6 Tundra you apparently have now.  I'll tow just as well and get better MPG than the Tundra.

I pull with 2017 F150 2.7L ecoboost. Best tow vehicle I've ever had. 6 speed tranny with tow mode works great. 8K km trip to Newfoundland averaged about 16 L/100 kms.(17.75 MPG imp. or 14.7 MPG US). We pull with a Ford F-150 with the 3.5L EcoBoost. It has power to spare, and pulls the R-pod like it is nothing. F 150 has several engine options, including a V8. The coyote 5.0 rocks.. BUT DO NOT discount the 3.5 ecoboost without driving one. Really.

We towed our RP175 for about two and a half years with our 4.6 Tundra. It did a fantastic job over all of the passes and foothills of Washington State. Towing mpg with the RPod was between 10 and 15 mpg--usually 12 to 13. The 2010 to 2013 4.6 Tundras were a little higher rated for towing (8200 lbs for mine) than the newer ones. I dunno why. I'm now towing up to 5000 lbs. wet weight with our Kodiak. Towing the big climbs of Colorado, Utah, and Arizona was no problem for the 4.6 at this weight. I always lock out overdrive 6th and sometimes 5th while towing.

P/S I also towed with a Tacoma, and it did OK, but got a little worse towing mpg than the Tundra 4.6, and couldn't come close to the towing ability of the 4.6. I know that the 5.7 Tundra is a horse for pulling, but most people don't give the 4.6 enough credit, as long as you keep it at a reasonable pulling weight.
