He is a half-wild indoor/outdoor cat who will not allow anyone but me to touch him. Leaving him alone really upsets him so now we take him. I give him tranquilizers that I get from our vet - they just mellow him a little. He endures two walks a day on a harness and spends the rest of the time fairly content. He uses a cat box which I scoop frequently. Oh, and after listening to him yell for hours, we decided he travels in the trailer, in his crate. Not ideal but better than the alternative.

He's been in poor health and continued to go downhill even with medication, so it was time to put him to rest. He was the first cat we ever took camping. While he didn't really enjoy the trips getting there, he found himself some comfy spots in the Pod to snooze in and windows from which to watch the critters outside.

Fortunately, we have twin 5-month-old kittens that did great in their first and only outing and we look forward to taking them on more trips. Our cat has always ridden in our TV. He settles down on a cardboard scratching "recliner" and sleeps or looks out the window. When we first traveled with the kittens they were together in a crate. A few weeks ago, we decided to let them out of the crate and now they also are free to move about. One kitten cries off and on during our travels, but settles down after a bit. The other kitten is fine. We bought two more of the cardboard "recliners" so all 3 have one. We keep a litter box and water and treats in the TV. Overall it is pretty uneventful. We keep harnesses and leashes on each category so it's easy to grab them if they try to escape. Two of the 3 like the outdoors so we'll walk them a bit at rest stops.
For short trips (like to vet), Henry rides in a soft carrier. Longer trips, he gets the full TV, but prefers just to sit (sleep) on passenger pillow lap.

I would suggest just taking him/her on some short trips in the TV to see how he handles it. Henry complains (vocally) about his carrier, but isn't violent. Our previous cat turned into a pretty dangerous devil-cat when she saw the carrier. Henry is the definition of a lap-cat. That's his safe place.

We just carry Henry's litter box in the back of the TV. He knows where it is and uses it when he needs to. We are lucky, I guess, because he really doesn't seem to mind traveling in the TV and especially likes rest stops - talking to anyone who walks by. Perhaps he is asking for passerbys to call 911, but he doesn't try to escape.

fred
