After I posted, I thought of rigging up a stepper motor controlled by a potentiometer mounted to the wall. The stepper would turn the knob in response to turning the pot. An alternative to moving the antenna would be to cut an opening through which the antenna's controls could be reached and worked. If I were to replace the antenna in our 179, I'd get a King Jack antenna and not another omni-delusional antenna (an omnidirectional antenna only guarantees that you'll get bad reception in all directions). Unfortunately, it would also mean moving the location of the antenna because the directional knob would be in the airspace behind the stereo otherwise. The batwing antenna on my 179 has bent and needs replacing.  I was looking at a King Omnipro, omni directional antenna as a replacement.  Have any of you had any experience with this antenna?  Have any of you replaced your batwing with one of these?  Is there anything I need to know before I buy and install one of these?
