We may reconsider A/C in the future once I retire. Have never camped for an extended period during the summer. As a golf course superintendent I am fortunate to get 2 days off every other weekend so the bulk of our camping is in the 'shoulder' months, April-May and then September - November. Have had a couple instances where a/c would have been great but since we were at locations where there was no electricity, it was a non-issue. A/C is essential here. It's loud, but it's better than being miserably sweaty all night. I could do without the entertainment and microwave, but it has 'em, so we'll use 'em.

Yes, CAMP, still feel like we are glamping w/o all those extras in our pod. Since we are used to boondocking, it was a simple decision to get our special order pod w/o the extras. We love the outdoors, like cooking over an open fire or charcoal, and since we hardly watch tv at home, why would we want to waste time doing that when we are camping? We don't miss the Jayco popup especially when breaking down in rain/snow. Was a continual problem breaking the sides down with the moisture/rain getting the mattresses wet. No longer a problem. Also, no mold issues with no canvas, another plus. My wife loves the indoor privy and a fridge that doesn't have to have ice added to it every other day. No A/C, Micro, Entertainment???/ What the heck do you do with it, CAMP??? heh. This will actually be my first year in a trailer coming up next spring, i have no idea if i'll use all that stuff either. The wait to bring out the new 172 is driving me coo coo.

I always love spotting people running classic older vehicles for tow duty in campgrounds, such as yours, and enjoy talking to them. I just like the concept of taking care of and maintaining older vehicles; a respect thing.

I can tell by your description that you took the important steps for your classic Chev. Another camper I met was towing with a classic early Suburban, probably around a 1966 or 67. The bodywork was all straight and it had that same light blue paint as yours. I suppose your 305 could later become a 350 or 400 c.i.d. someday. Would the 700R4 bolt up?

In the mid-nineties when our boys were little, we bought a "preserved in time" 1964 Apache tent trailer in Boise with the Chevy Impala style tail lights on it. Went through it and smoothed out the bugs, and it was perfectly functional for trips all over the west and up and down the Oregon coast twice. I really wanted to tow it with a '60s station wagon, instead of my 1994 Toyota Xcab V-6 at the time.

A 60s wagon would have probably towed it with more authority, too, as long as I made sure the 4-barrelled V-8 was tight and it was cooling itself properly, and I had a strong differential. After the Apache Tent Trailer was gone, I purchased & restored a 1969 Olds Vista Cruiser, (with the 11 different windows, including in the roof) and that really should have been the TV for the Apache, durn it.

Today one of the things I've thought about with on our R-Pod was using the painted black rims and putting chrome rings and baby moon hubcaps on it. Thought it would be fun to put 60s Comet or Falcon tail lights on the Pod. Fun, but totally unecessary, of course. Anyway, thanks for posting your TT and classic GM truck .....and your campsite location looked picture perfect for fall camping in NC. Clap

Went to Bryson City, NC last weekend and spent two nights at a local campground there.

Ye olde pickemup truck handled it ok. Its anemic 305 V8 was working mighty hard coming up the mountains, but it made it. New trans cooler and oversize finned trans pan (and gauge) were in place before the trip to hopefully preserve the 700R4 transmission.

Both the truck and camper seem to draw comments when we're out and about. People like 'em!
