It is truly an amazing place! We go to the Aquarium in Manteo every year. Rodanthe is one of our favorite places.  Our oldest son got married on the beach in Avon during the filming of "Nights In Rodanthe" so it was a little more crowded than usual.  Our middle son was married inside the Aquarium in Manteo.  The kids still talk about running over to Mac's store to buy ice cream. We have made several more trips up the the refuge,it has been great we are up to 57 sighting,. If anyone is ever camping down in the outer banks/Roanoke island area, a great place to visit is the Alligator River Wildlife refuge. We usually take a ride up from Rodanthe several times during our stay. We did get there once this year before we cut inland. We saw  a total of 11 bear in the one visit. 4 were young and 7 we pretty good size. Will post some photo's once I get them of my wife's camera.
