Hello Everyone:
I hope Forest River is reading this. I am considering a new RPod and have seen the videos on the new 2017 and 1/2 models. Everything looks good except for the awning. Looks very lightweight and flimsy where the vertical pokes attached to body or straight up on ground. Why in the world could they have not used the same manual awning the the Winnie Drop has. It has the vertical track on the body of the unit , which is more stable.The Winnie Drop awning is made by  Lippert And is the Solara 8 ft model. Lip pert also makes it in a 10 ft model. Could Forest River adopt this unit.

Emailed Forest River West Coat on 9/1/2016 and was told they are working on a retractable awning modification that will fit a 2017 r-pod 179. Individual said it would be completed by end of September 2016 and available for sale in October 2016. I did some measurements last night. It appears that a 9' awning would barely fit, 8' to be safe; with a 9' awning the outdoor outlets become an obstacle. The keder rail would have to be cut off and straightened to get coverage over the door. OK, so I'm looking at the Carefree Pioneer Lite awning and it seems to be a good bang for the buck. The brand is Carefree of Colorado, the same as the awning you were looking at. The model we bought is the Slideout Cover. We bought it from RV Parts Country.

You'll have to do some measurements to get the right length, but the instructions on the Carefree website are pretty good (click on "Learn More..." in the Awning Length section).

Bought it and installed it ourselves. The toughest part was feeding the fabric into the keder rail, especially with the drainage spouts in the way. Spreading the mouth of the rail open a bit really helped, but it was a two-person job on the 179. They claim they can cut it down for a fee with shorter arms. making a bracket to mount it to shouldn't be to hard to make, ( I weld alot), and the stock RV channels are available if need be.
This seems simple enough, Iv'e sent in the measurements to them and am waiting for a response.
the arms can only be 61" tall, and to mount it to my pod (180) I need 8'6" arm mounting point to arm mounting point to mount to the aluminum pod frame.
Just a simple crank unit but it should do the job.

It's possible with the correct length of awning, but the curved factory keder rail would have to be replaced with a straight one.

I'm researching it myself. Now that the new, almost available, rpod models have a traditional awning option,( I've only seen pictures) and the Winnebago and jayco clones also have them, Has anyone looked into or put an awning on their pod? I've been looking and found a few that may work, Forest River will give me no info and dealers have no clue.
 
This doesn't seem like rocket science. Anyone done this?
