Wake Forest, NC has a low of Sam's Club at $2.03.9 at Sam's Club for regular, to $2.29.9 as the highest price at some of the stations. October 3 now, and in the smaller mountain towns of NC, it's around $2.25, give or take. A week ago, some Flying Js, Pilots and Loves often were $1.99 in TN and parts of NC, so they could still be posting those prices. Diesel closer to 2-bits higher.

Part of the problem is people "panic" buying. It only guarantees that stations will run out sooner than they would have otherwise. I read about someone at a gas station filling up a set of 10-gallon containers. If there are a lot of people doing the same, it really exacerbates the situation.

Current regular prices here are a low of $2.09 and a high of $2.39 according to Gas Buddy.

Y'all don't want to travel in California. Right now we are just under $3.00 ($2.89 where we are) for regular. Northern MD 87 octane, $1.99 by me and I saw $1.85 not far away 2 days ago.

I was amazed at the variable prices I paid for high octane across the country last month.  My average was $2.82 but you can see the variability in the numbers below.  Note that some of those fillups were in "captive" areas like inside national parks where the prices are always higher.  $4.10 was on the Las Vegas strip.

In high school I worked in a ga station where regular gs was 15 cents per gallon and it got as low a 6 cents once in a gas war.
