If you get up to Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, try Maidstone State Park, it is right on Maidstone Lake very rural. All you hear at night are the peepers and the Loons ( bird loons NOT two legged) calling.
Great fishing, hiking and boating.

We just got back from 4 fabulous days camping at Elmore State Park, Elmore, Vermont. I've been going to Vermont for 50 years and have never been to Elmore. A beautiful lake and camping area great hiking, swimming and biking from the park. We biked 20 miles of the Lamoille Recreation Trail out of Morrisville, biked the Stowe Recreation trail, hiked to the fire tower on Mount Elmore and swam everyday in Lake Elmore.
