You may not set any speed records climbing but most major roads are not too steep and the R-Pod is not some behemoth. We are towing with a 4 cylinder, 2L Ecoboost Ford Escape. On our first trip out west taking mainly I40, we had no major difficulties as long as we took it easy. The return trip was over I10, I20, and I85. That was not bad either. Since adding an AeroPlus wind deflector and limiting our top speed to 60 mph, the mileage is even better than on our first trip without it.

Air resistance increases exponentially with speed. That is why limiting the speed to 60 mph makes for an acceptable compromise for speed and economy. Increasing speed to 65 or 70 mph significantly reduces mileage as the wind resistance increases.
