If you use a cover, secure it well around the periphery. Then -- this is important - take some rope, I use strands of hay twine tied together, and put 3 or 4 ropes over the top of the cover- side to side and front to rear- tied to the bottom of the pod.  This keeps the tarp from flapping.  I do this to cover 9 high stack loads of hay(81 bales) and it lasts all winter.  And we do get wind in SW Idaho.
Tie the end of the rope to a piece of 4x4 and toss it over the top, or use a ladder.

We live in North Carolina and keep our pod covered year round. It only takes about 10 minutes to cover or uncover it with 2 people. We have a lot of tree sap and pollen and oak leaves stains if we left it exposed. We tried waxing and washing, but like the cover better. We still have to lightly wash it before we leave.  We leave it plugged in and can get inside via the double zippered door flap. Ours came from NorThern Tools. I think it is from Classic Accessories. It fits our  2009 173 model perfectly.

I want to build a "pod port" for it but can't quite get the necessary approvals from the other half yet- but working on it.

I've always been very skeptical of paint protection stuff sold by dealerships.  (I'm talking cars)  I never buy into them.  I feel, and this is just my opinion, save yourself $800 and buy a good wax and do it yourself once or twice a year.  You will have about the same protection and save a bunch of money for other worthwhile upgrades.

As far as a cover.  I haven't used one yet...  But thinking about it for winter storage.

First off, I think you posted this in the wrong area ("Camping with pets").  Moderators:  Might want to move it.

To your question:  We do.  And it does get windy here, but I haven't had any problems.  The cover really does a good job of keeping the UVs off the camper and protecting from other things, like tree sap, etc.  We keep ours covered all winter.  During the summer months, I'll cover it if we're not going to camp for a month or so, otherwise it stays uncovered.

Hi newby podder here! Just purchased a 180 from Camping World in Idaho Falls, ID. The finance lady said not to bother with a cover. She said that in windy areas (we live in Ennis MT) the cover would flap and wear out the finish and damage other stuff...She then offered up a factory finish option for $800 plus.
