On Balance, I'd say our 2016 POD 178 is average to slightly above average in terms of quality control. Granted, we have owned boats and RV's for many years and we have realistic expectations when it comes to machines that survive in harsh environments, like boats and RV's. In addition, if you're gonna get into RVing or boating, it just pays to learn how to fix things on your own. It's not hard, especially with resources like this and the plethora of you-tube videos available. Two problems have occurred so far in the 178...the water hose fittings under the sink were loose and I needed to tighten them; and the c-channel for the Dome was a little too wide and I needed to crimp it a little to hold the Dome in place. That's really not bad given all the things that could go wrong in a trailer or a boat. Fixing stuff that breaks and improving things that were not done so well the first time is simply one of the pleasures we get from RVing and boating. My advice is to reset your expectations about stuff in general. Expect it to be imperfect...inspect carefully before you take it off the dealer's lot and inspect again when you get it home. Learn how things work. See if you can make things a little better. Read about RVing. WinkWinkAnd above all, just enjoy the pleasure of being able to get out in the world in your own little RV. I'll add, this forum was created in the interest of open communication, after censorship (and denial) elsewhere - full story posted elsewhere on this forum.  We have allowed discussion of all types and tenor, and disagreement isn't a problem.  Personal attacks and constant criticism is not discussion.  In 7 1/2 years on this forum only one person has been banned and that was due to this behavior.

Thing is, many of us don't disagree with Gavin's basic premise - that FR has a quality control issue (FR knows this and does read this forum).  See, we haven't drunk the kool-aid.  Some pods have problems at times, which happens with every product on the market, but we love the pods anyway.

I would like to add the following to my earlier post.
Being a Newbie I have learned a lot here. Completing some of my mods I have seen a few things regarding workmanship that bugged me but, nothing that I couldn't take care of myself with very little effort.
Each one of us takes the Rpod from being a good RV to a being Great RV as we complete our own personalization. Yamaha motorcycles used to have a great theme "Make it your own" in other words they build a good bike and you make it your own and in so doing turn it into a Great Bike. Thats why I owned two of them at one time and still have one.
I am transforming my 179 from Good to Great. I purposely refrained from replying to Gavin here. After many years of participating in Fidonet, I have learned one thing: Leave the moderating to the moderators!

I used the "Report Post" option under "Post Options" instead. Thank you David for taking action. I wish Gavin had found it within himself to just let it go and go make a positive contribution in the Dutchman forums (if they exist) instead of hanging around here attacking a product which, while not perfect, is certainly of a sufficient quality that we have purchased and are enjoying them.

I just finished re-caulking the kitchen window in my 2016 R179. The silicone caulking (presumably done by the dealer as I understand they just come with the rubber seal from the factory) was not done very well. I'm not going to just complain though about how bad it is. Instead, my mods will show what I did about it.

We had two issues when we bought our slightly used 2015 171. The windows were not caulked properly and we had the dealer do that. And we also had a problem with the furnace vent apparently the gasket was never applied and was never cauked. We had the dealer caulk the windows before we took it home but the furnace vent we didn't find out until we were camping and saw the leak coming from under the cabinet under the sink. We thought it was plumbing at first but took her back to the dealer and fiound out it was due to the furnace vent.part of the problem is I park it next to my workshop and the roof drains the water towards that side of the Rpod. I for one hope that Gavin doesn't move on. I find his posts entertaining :) I think it’s the blind faith in the superiority of his new RV, combined with his ranting about pod owner’s “kool-aid” drinking. He’s obviously drunk too much kool-aid himself, but he doesn’t quite realize it…. anyway, it’s funny.

Had the same issue, except the hose didn't come completely off, just lose. Luckily I caught it early enough and didn't completely fill the interior of the pod with water. Something everyone should check on sooner or later, hose clamps can loosen over time and it's good maintenance to check them once a year.

One would hope so, but they don't seem to check behind panels or open up access panels or remove drawers to check and tighten plumbing. We had some fit and finish issues such as loose plumbing connections and trim pieces not attached well. However, the biggest issues were due to the dealer not checking it thoroughly before it went off the lot (wasp nest in the refrigerator burner) a damaged fender partly due to a design flaw and partly due to the door being swung too far open and hitting the fender, and the water tank support problem. All these were fixed for me. The plumbing, and several other minor problems I fixed myself.

Overall, I can't complain about the quality. Thanks to folks here, I found out about some potential problems and addressed them before they became actual problems. Smile

Rpods could be a Great Travel Trailer but until quality control issues are corrected at the factory, Rpods will be just another good trailer......... among other good trailers.

There are two books out there I suggest every manager at the Rpod factory read, "Good to Great" and "Built to Last" both written by Jim Collins.

They could become a Great Trailer and RV company.
