Another Pod that almost gives me the willies is when I am in the 152, a 15' long pod, actually only 12' inside subtracting the 3 foot for the tongue.  Don't think it has been made for quite some time.  Saw one in Copper Harbor, Michigan years ago and went in one when we were at Lakeshore State Park, in the thumb of MI.  If you are by yourself it may be ok, but for 2, kind of reminds me of a lot of the teardrops like T&B and others that are really, really small inside.

It's the thing that makes life with two adults, and two dogs, livable. We have camped with slideless pods before.. Barbaric way to live.

It truly is amazing, when camping with 171's next door, and you go in and out of each others pods, how much difference that 8sqft makes.

(for those who don't know, the 171 and 177 are nearly identical floorplans, minus the slide. Or with a slide, if you are a 171 owner)

Our pod is in the driveway, with full hook ups. We go in and out of it a couple times a week, pretty much year 'round. That is a lot of in and out for the slide, and just time wasted listening to the wirrrr-click-click-click IMHO, that isn't needed. We have used it as a guest room, a study space, and have driveway camped several times. We have a slide topper, so even though we are in the woods, no issue keeping the top of the slide clear/clean.

I have never bothered to do any closing or plugging of the area under the slide, it has a flapper seal that seams to do fine. We get more critters in thru the door going in and out and in and out and in and out with the dogs..

I am going to go with, "yes, it's personal preference".. 99% of "slide failures" are motor or drive issues.. can happen anytime. I don't remember anyone having a slide "sag issue" or whatever some think will happen if they leave the slide out.

Look underneath your slide and you will see a rail that supports the slide out portion.  Around the rail there are open areas that cannot be totally closed off or the slide won't work.  At least that is the way it is on my 177.  When we have camped in some mosquito infested areas I have taken a t-shirt and stuffed it in that area to close up that open area and the skeeters can't get in.  Also have used duct tape in the past but that is a waste, use it once and throw it away.  With a t-shirt you can use it multiple times, just don't forget to take it out before bringing your slide in otherwise you will have a big time mess on your hands.]]> Mon, 14 Mar 2016 21:58:26 +0000 http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=7568&PID=71251#71251 Slide open or closed? : How can bugs and stuff get in... http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=7568&PID=71249#71249 Author: Planetwister

We keep ours in as well, snakes, bees, flies, mosquitoes can find their way inside via the slide underneath, at in our neck of the woods.  Don't like those surprises, especially the snakes, even though they aren't poisonous, they can still scare you.
