The paint and fabric plan is a total scam, auto dealers use it too.  They spray Scotchguard on the fabric, and put a high quality sealer on the paint. You can do the same for about $100 in materials, and a few hours work. Spraying the fabric takes minutes when new, the worst part about it airing out the trailer in between coats. Polishing the outside takes more time and effort, but anyone can do it in a few hours. I purchased a 2012 r-pod 171 in October, your going to have a lot of fun fitting it to your life style.  I'm continually making improvements to best fit my needs when I take my R-171 for the big trip this summer, so far all my trips have been pretty close to home, and when I return from each trip I go back to the drawing board with more ides

Ours is a 2011 that we brought home in March of the same year.  No problem to date with paint, decals, fabric.  We do maintain with a good wax McGuires, 2x/year.

When I bought a brand new Dodge Grand Caravan in 1990 I got a similar plea from the salesman.  Well, a good friend of mine knew Lee Iococca  quite well as he was involved with the advertising firm BBDO for Chrysler Corp. at the time.  He told me that it was a money grab for the company, that Chrysler didn't have 80% of the mini van market by selling junk.  So I told the salesperson "NO" and saved myself $ 3000.00.  Money well saved, kept that until 2001, as it had 265,000 miles on it with very few problems.   Purchased another used '97 Caravan and kept that until 2010  when we got an '08 Explorer.  Had 238,000 miles on that one.  The 3.3 L V-6 is a great engine that Chrysler made, reminds me of the near bullet-proof 318 V-8 of the 1960's.

Hi Everyone,

My husband and I are finalizing the purchase of our first RV (2016 171) which will be a huge improvement from tenting.  We are quite excited.

We need to decide if we want to purchase the extended warranty which we were quoted for just over $3000 to extend coverage from 2 -7 years., and  is transferable should we sell.   They are also offering a Paint / Fabric / Protection plan for $1400 ish.

Do people here recommend the extended warranty?    What do people think about the paint protection?  

We are tempted to forgo both options but figured I'd throw it out to hear what more experienced folks thought?
