I have been reading for sometime each month a full time campers website his name is Sebastian. He had became very ill with a flesh eating bacteria and almost lost his life thankfully for God, friends and good medical care he is still alive. simplelivingandsimpletravel.com is his website a very sad story but a lesson for all who full time or are thinking about it. If you read September's post you will get a detailed story of the tragic events that took place. Thank you! Nevelle is amazing! Leash trained, loves the outdoors (we keep him on a tie-out), and travels beautifully in our car! We adopted him in New Mexico and fell immediately in love!

Sounds exciting! I've seen a YouTube video of a couple who are living in an R-Pod (in their case they are newlyweds and pretty young). There are also blogs out there of a couple who are full time travelers. You might want to see what you can find on their sites. I just ran into one (blog) but didn't mark it, so I can't give you the link.

We just started being full time travelers in an rpod. We're in the US in the moment but will also go to Central and South America. Our first month of traveling is already accomplished. We were in Oregon and a bit in California. Canada is next.

My husband and I are full-time in a Teardrop (considering an rpod). Our apartment lease ended March 2015, we sold or donated everything and hit the road. Without a sticks & bricks home, we needed to establish a domicile. Texas, Florida, and South Dakota have been the 3 favorable states for this. We joined the Escapees RV Club where we signed up for their mail forwarding service, and they in turn gave us a physical address. Escapees is located in all 3 states. We registered our vehicles and trailer in Texas, registered to vote, got health insurance, got car insurance, etc. Domicile = "intent to locate there in the future", although there is no obligation to do so". It has worked out beautifully.

I am 56, been retired for 6 years, waiting for the grand kids to get a little older, then we are pretty much planning the same thing. Planning to purchase one lot north ( Vermont ) and one south (North Carolina or below) and our yearly trip for October to Cape Hatteras.

We also plan to get a fifth wheel or large RV after our US trip, to settle into and bring back and forth.

Thanks again.

I'm currently 58. Hoping when retirement occurs we still have the Pod and plan on taking a 6-12 month tour of U.S. and Canada.

When that's over the plan is to upgrade to a 5th wheel and use it in two or three sites a year.

I think the biggest concern would be buying a lot that is not part of an RV Park/resort.

I think a lot of local ordinances prohibit an RV as a permanent residence on the property. It would be nice to believe that a lot with water, sewer and electricity could be sold later to either someone with similar needs or even someone who wanted to put a house on the property.

I looked at one RV park in Virginia where the lots appear to be about $7K - $8K and then the annual fees/taxes about $1K. A seasonal rate in another local (but preferable) campground is over $3K per year. So the upfront (and assumable equity) cost can reduce the annual costs. I'm not sure what other pros and cons there might be.

We have a similar plan, we are doing the research now to set up a lot in Vermont and then another down south, we would then bounce back and forth. You continue to be a great resource.

That would be phase I. After retiring travelling the entire U.S. and hopefully in our current Pod and TV.

Phase II would be residence in two or three different places during the year. At that point we would trade up to a bigger RV perhaps a fifth wheel. I'd buy a new TV and we'd spend several months in two or three locations.

What I'm wondering about is buying lots and putting the trailer on the lot. Of course I'd have to put septic, water and electric in. I'd hope to do it somewhere that the lot and utilities would not be too expensive. Is this feasible?

I'm still about 8 years from retirement but have started dreaming of the day. Also about the ability of taking an extended road trip of say 6 to 8 months.

I'd like to sell my house and second car, put our stuff in a storage pod and spend the next few months travelling the U.S.

My question is regarding legal residence. In such a scenario I won't have a permanent residence. No concern about paying bills or receiving things, but what about my drivers license or other things that would require a permanent residence.

My suspicion is that I'd have to say it was my son's home.
