Welcome.

Idaklee - Winterizing is one of those things that has a bunch of steps but only takes about 15 minutes in the real world.  No way to bypass the tanks w/o replumbing the pod.

I had to chuckle when I saw all the steps involved in winterizing. I don't know where most of those things are! LOL
I'll most likely take the pod to an RV service place for the job. Then I will go camping without water. I can make do with a porta potty and a Coleman jug for water. However....I will miss having a sink to use! There wouldn't be a way to bypass the tanks would there? Don't worry about winterizing until the night temps fall below freezing for more than a few hours.  If you make sure all 3 tanks are drained you can go even longer, just leave a space heater on low and all the cabinets open inside.  You should be fine through early November.

Truly winterizing it isn't hard to do!  See the link in my signature for info on how to do it.

You DEFINITELY want to get a brake controller.  In most states it is required by law.  We usually recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy around here.

Nice to "meet"you. Yeah, the winterizing thing has me freaked out. I'm not going to try doing it myself. I feel bad cuz fall is my favorite time to camp and I'll have to do without water! I plan to take the pod out sometime this coming week...to familiarize myself with everything. Then I'll have to get it winterized prior to my October trip. Dang.

Well hello fellow Minnesotan! My husband and I just bought our RP151 a few weeks ago. We are stepping up from a tent trailer. It's not as large as yours but I don't have to break my back setting up any more. I think I have read this forum in it's entirety...well almost. So much to learn! Our first outing is next weekend at Jay Cook.
When we bought it we had to de-winterize it. One or two outings and we'll have to winterize it!

Chilly is OK, freezing is not. If the temps fall below 32 deg. then you need to have it winterized and just carry along some jugs of water for cooking/drinking/washing dishes or use paper plates, etc.
Then use the campground bathroom facilities, or take a luggable loo as a port-a-potty.

Right now, I am concerned about my water tanks freezing up. I live in MN and the mornings are already very chilly. My problem is that fall is when I want to camp! How do I manage this? While camping, I'm guessing I should occasionally turn the water heater on but what about when the camper is sitting between trips? I like to take little trips till the first week or two in November!!

We have the electric brakes on our, no tranny cooler. We have towed from Vermont to the keys and back several times and have towed through the Pocono mtn in PA, haven't had any problems. Temps doesn't rise and we get pretty good mileage 13.5 in VT and 14.5-16 once we get down to the Mass border. Our older Grand Caravan (2005)  that had the smaller engine, had to work a bit. But this newer van has the bigger engine 280 horse power. Seem to be good.
