Thank you. I will monitor the seals, but I'm going to let the dealer look at it in few weeks after I use it some. I saw this on mine. It is where the gear channel passes the seal. Mine looked like the pass through cut in the seal was not quite large enough and square. I'm watching and making sure I keep the seals clean and lubed. Well, I have a 178 and it has a different type of slide, but I can't imagine doing damage the seal is a good thing. On the other hand, I can't begin to suggest what you could do to stop it. 

Is it the metal gear track on the side of the slide room that is doing the damage?

Maybe you could clamp something (another piece of rubber) in place at that point where it's getting chewed on to protect the seal, but  take care not to inhibit movement of the slide.  

How bad is it? A pic would really help on this one.
