Hello !!!! I am hoping to create this same ventilated shelf of my 171.
The only ventilated wood shelves I can find are 72" but my space is 74.25. Thus, the expanding foot is excellent, however, I can't tell if you have yours on both ends ?

The shelf is over our bed and it doesn’t block too much light. Hi all, just wanted to share my results with the shelf mod. The shower curtain and pads worked great. I didn't crank down the rods so there was a lot of pressure and the shelf held well. The valances don't bear any weight, and are attached with small screws. I took the valances off and set the pads on the top edge of the window frame (not pictured). Very sturdy.

I'm not a fan of any solution that results in putting any force, at all, against the sidewalls. I mean like zero. Smile

The valance bears some weight. The set up for the tensioners is like this: 10-32 bolt thru non-skid pad, 10-32 nut tightened down to hold pad at the end of the bolt. End of shelf rails drilled 1/8 pilot 2 1/2" deep, then larger hole to accommodate the bolt diameter. One last drill out to 5/8" depth to set the 10-32 tee nut in the end of the shelf rail. I think we need to have the right size baskets purchased before positioning the shelf.
