We hate the table in our 179 too. It's too tall by 3 in. to make flat bed. Plus always in the way. When you figure it out please post. Are your Kitchen drawers all half size? Ive looked in other 179 hood river editions and the only half drawer is the top one. Our dealer says there is no room for a full size drawer. We just bought a memory foam topper from Costco and cut 6 inches off one end and put it on our 179 mattress. It's to die for comfy. We sleep with temp at 60. My hubby is a hot bod and I'm always cold. We both sleep well with the memory foam. I replaced the table side cushions foam in my 179 with firmer foam purchased from UFO, Chula Vista, Southern California. I bought a piece of 6" foam from the same place to fit the bed shape and then put whatever you call the factory mattress thingie on top of that. If its warm in the room it can get hot but for the most part both my wife and myself don't think heat is a problem with the memory foam mattresses we've slept on for years.

The firmness is what I like as I can get up out of bed without any back soreness where a softer mattress bothers me while sleeping and after I get out of bed!

Disclaimer: The following are just my/our opinions. Wife & I have pretty well concluded that every foam mattress is different. Plus "sleeping hot" is at least as much about the person as it is the mattress. I sleep hot. Doesn't matter the fancy name of this or that foam, the number of fancy layers, so-called "cool gel", etc. I'll still sleep hot, my wife won't. For us, it's more about support.

As I've said in other posts, buying mattresses is no fun. Unknown names, all bragging about their fancy-label foam being the one NASA developed, useless 25 year warranties (like I'm really going to send it back to some ebay vendor because it gets out of shape in 6 months). It's a crapshoot! We ended up buying a made-for-Dometic Serta. So far, so good. It's at least better than the original FR mattress.

TMI? Sorry.. Kind of a hot-button topic for me. Embarrassed

Funny...the DW and I are the same. I actually find the stock mattress acceptable but she hated it so we tried a foam topper which I hated and she loved it, so I sliced it in half. Thumbs Up

I think so, you can feel the heat just reflecting back at you. I get very hot with ours.

Congrats on your new 179! We picked up ours last month and are anxiously awaiting spring time for our test run. For now it's sitting beside the garage Ouch

You might want to do a search on ebay for short queen memory foam mattresses. We replaced the factory mattress already with a medium firm memory foam off of ebay for $239, including shipping, and while we haven't slept on it yet I can tell it will be comfortable just from laying on it. It's the third memory foam mattress we've bought off of ebay, from different sellers, and have been happy with the other two that we've been sleeping on for two to three years.

We also had a problem with the cushions being too soft. Had them restuffed with better foam at a local upholstery shop.

Sounds good John. We have the wrap around dinette so we would like to cut the table as you have indicated. In our case, a post could be reinforced at the box point after beefing it up. It's difficult to explain, but we want it to swivel 360º.

We are looking to get it done before spring so no rush here. Pics and more detail to follow...don't forget to post yours...we all want to see it! Thumbs Up

We find the dinette seating to be a little awkward, too. But replacing the table with the aluminum roll-up isn't an option for us because we want to retain the extra sleeping space the table provides when converted to "bed mode".

Our solution: we'll use the wall mount hardware + pedestal found at http://shop4seats.com/rv-furniture/dinettes/dinette-hardware.html. The angle part of the table will be cut off. The raw edge remaining will go up against the wall & be hidden. And, depending on how heavy the cut-down table is, I might replace it with a similar sized piece of 3/4" light ply. Anyway, the shorter table and a pedestal rather than the fold-up legs should make it easier to be seated.

I've just received the hardware. Now, in amongst the holidays, I just need to make time to install it.

I hate the table, didn't even use it on our last trip. It looks good when a buyer is shopping, but what a practical nightmare to use.

I'm currently working on a table mod, I have some ideas, but not sure yet how it will look in the end.

We gave the table that came with out 179 to Goodwill and replaced it with an aluminum roll up table. Much lighter, easier to handle and we can easily move it outdoors.
