M3 thanks for the campground suggestion l bookmarked the site.  There are so many campgrounds in a 25 mile radius from us being in the Smokey's and next to Pisgah National Forest and then there is also the Cherokee area.  Our first trip though won't be to a campground but to see family.  Then we will have to sit out the winter snows until Spring.  We won't be pulling the pod up or down the mountain in the snow. We are just learning on how to personalize our pod.  It has been fun.  I am sure after our first outing we will have a list of things we want to do to make it ours.

Hi Blue's pod. I thought I had posted a reply to your campground question, however I don't think it made it to you.
I really like Mountain Stream campground near Marion,NC. Small, beautiful and quiet. Ask for a site on the stream. Some of the sites even have a deck built out next to the water.
By the way, I think I need the two of you to come down the mountain and help me modify my pod!

Also the dome comes with a netting that slides into a track on the bottom of the pod.  I like it better than the snap type system that I heard were on other domes.   I modified our netting today.  The original netting goes over the tire but does not reach the ground having to go out over the tire (because there is no track inside the wheel well).  Husband marked where he wanted it cut.  Then I sewed a seam and some velcro on both halves.  Now our netting skirt goes together via velcro behind the wheel around the axle.  That allows our netting to go all the way to the ground

Today we got the r-dome out and put up for the first time.  It took us 15 minutes to put it up and take pictures.  We did spray the track with silicone as recommended in the instructions.  We don't think it will be necessary to use the spray next time as our track is wider than the plastic part you slide through.  I was worried that our dome would come up short with the risers but that is not the case.  There is ample length on our dome even with the risers.  Here is a picture of the dome with the colors.  The top is grey and other parts are a matching green to the new pod colors.  The roll up panels are a pale yellow.  We did take a dremel tool to the edges of the track because they are sharp and were shaving a little on the plastic.  That fixed it.

There are several campgrounds in Maggie Valley.  They are along Soco Road and three along Johnathan Creek road.  We have not stayed at any locally yet as we just got our pod.  The one I know on Johnathan Creek is Pride RV resort. http://pridervresort.com/  There are some on Soco road that also back up to a creek.  Soco road goes through downtown Maggie Valley.  Johnathan Creek Road is just outside of downtown Maggie Valley one mile off interstate 40 at exit 20.

What about campgrounds in your area?  Can you recommend some?

This Rally is the 3rd Annual Kentucky MiniMini.  It's in the middle of September, and my wife and I host it every September somewhere in Kentucky.

Kymooses - We would like to go to the rally and looked into it.  The only days that a space is available for us would be the 17th and 18th.  We did not make any reservations yet because our first trip is to visit my Mom in South Dakota.  It will depend on our timing there.  We thought it would be nice to attend on our way back.  For now we will have to wait and see.  If we don't get there this year we will get there next year.  We will be retiring this September so will soon have plenty of time to travel.

David & Danette - Yes, our 171 is the 2015 model with the new colors, and extra features like the led lighting, risers, exterior shower, microwave/convection oven ect. It is also supposed to come with the r-dome.  Not sure yet if it will be on back order or not.  I read on the forum that there seems to be a shortage from the factory.

Hello everyone.  My husband and I should receive our pod this week.  It is being picked up by the dealer from FR today.  We are getting the 2015 R-171.  After the dealer does their prep it will be delivered this week.  We are so excited!  This is our first pod.

The last time we had a travel trailer was about 13 years ago.  So we will be refreshing our memory on travel trailers soon. 

See everyone around the forum.  And maybe in the parks. Smile
