This makes me wonder if I should include a few extra studs and lug nuts in my spare parts kit.  They have come in handy with my boat trailers in the past, they are inexpensive and relatively easy to replace should a stud shear off on the road.

Hey garyotter...welcome from cayucos ...we have a 179 and have made a couple of short trips around ca, but are leaving of Idaho on sat.  Just for safety sake I have checked the lugs and tire pressure. Also carry a torque wrench to check the lugs as we travel. With only one axle, would not want to lose a wheel. Welcome aboard, mine is also 100 for the torque spec.  I have a specific torque wrench set aside that travels in my camp tool bag for each trip as well as a small extension for the attaching the lug nut to it as well.  Part of my check list is checking the air in the tires upon going to hook up, adding if necessary, then torque as needed.  I do this routine before every trip regardless of the distance to hopefully avoid that dreaded flat tire.  I also carry a crossbar tire iron and regular jack and a min of one jack stand as well too.  Be safe and enjoy out there!]]> Thu, 07 Aug 2014 19:45:38 +0000 http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=5128&PID=49794#49794 Lug nuts/ new members- not the same... : Welcome! On the discussion of tightening the lug nuts, just check that they are tight before leaving on a trip and before taking off in the morning if traveling on a long trip. I carry a 4-way lug nut wrench just for the POD to does this. Yes I learned the hard way after a great weekend trip.
   The door locks do line up opposite to each other, this is normal.
   The manual that comes with the POD is very generic, so if you do find one the best use for it is to use it to start your first campfire. Should be a sticker above your fender with a big 'ole red NOTICE for proper torque. On my 178 it says 100 ft. lbs. Best idea to take notice and get yourself a torque wrench. Yes, wheels do fall off. That said, mine haven't budged more than a click in 10,000 miles. Just lucky, I guess. 

I noticed the two outside door locks line up in opposite directions when open or locked. Don't know if they all come this way or not, but to remember which way they should go I put a dot of "White Out" on the edge of both locks to remind me of the open position. Hopefully I'll remember the positions before the white out wears off.

If you are talking about the keyed locks on the lockers, they can be installed 90 degrees different - either horizontal or vertical. You can unscrew them (single phillips screw) and adjust according to taste. You also should be able to tell when they snug themselves closed. Some folks go with combo locks instead, but I don't worry that much. Too old and too busy and having too much fun to worry.

Oops, forgot to ask about another issue with the 179. 
Seems like a big wind could blow the entry door into the right tail light. Has anybody figured out a door stop?

We just got our 179 yesterday. We've camped for 40 years. Mostly boondocking. Haven't seen an instruction manual for the R-pad, but have enough experience to get along. Question.
