I have a 2013 Tundra and I added the back up camera from Toyota, I think what they mean by that statement is if you have the in dash navigation system then that becomes your viewer, if you don't have it then you also have to purchase a new rear view mirror which has the screen in the left hand side. Guess they are covering themselves.

There is a Toyota dealer in North Carolina that sells original parts at a 20% discount, but I just asked the local parts guy to match the price and he did.

We pulled our R-Pod with a 03 Tundra that had the 6 cylinder engine and didn't have any real problems other than hills and high winds, we pull a Surveyor with our Tundra(big engine) now and to some extent have the same problem just not as defined.

From what I've seen many people who buy Tacoma's prefer the Off Road/ Short bed version.  When I bought mine they had a few in stock so it wasn't a big deal, but I don't think they build as many long beds though.  Hope this helps, happy hunting!

Don't know what this means. Maybe it means the stock truck dashboard display cannot display yhe backup camera image. The camera diplays perfectly in the rear view mirror of my 2103 Tacoma and it's great.

I recommend the Takonsha Prodigy P3 controller. Self leveling and the digital display allows easy setting and shows exactly what's happening.

That said, I thought Doug would welcome a self reading truck. Sort of like books on tape for long trips. Tongue

"Trucks cannot read."?  I agree that is important, because when trucks develop that ability we are a half-step from Terminator's Skynet!
 
Seriously though, welcome.  Most here, including myself, recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy line.  Well worth the cost, but not much more expensive than cheaper timer-based controllers.  The Prodigy uses an inertia detection system to produce even braking in the camper that mimics what you are doing in the TV (tow vehicle).

Welcome, I have a 2014 R-POD 177 and tow my Toyota Tacoma.  It is the big V6 so you should have no problems.  Gas mileage isn't even even that bad most of the time.  The weight of the 177 fully loaded doesn't even come close to my trucks capacity.  Some food for thought, good luck in your search!

We tow our 177 with an 07 3.7 L 5 cyl Colorado. Fuel mileage drops from 18-20 commuting to 10-11 towing. It is also rated at #4500.

We just purchased a 177 and will be pulling it with a 6-cylinder Honda Pilot rated to tow 4500 pounds. We haven't taken any long trips yet but it seems to do well so far. Welcome, not sure about the dealerships out that way, but the one back here in the east are having trouble keeping certain models on the lots.
We recently traded in our 171 for a 179 and had to wait 7+ weeks to get it from the factory.

You should not have problems towing with a Tacoma, we tow ours with a Dodge Grand Caravan.
