Hi, here are a few pics of the portholes from the inside. I also took out the AC haven't used it in 4 years live north of the 49th and put in a skylight to make it brighter inside, and made a black out cover.

Welcome fellow Alaskan!

My dealer told me that if I put in a port hole window on the trailer the warranty would be void as far as wall structure goes. He claimed that the trailer siding might lose its integrity or delaminate, etc. which I don't think is unwarranted thinking. Another issue with port hole windows by the bunks may be condensation issues right where you sleep, and you may find water droplets onto your bedding. Otherwise I completely understand your desire for more light in that area (I have a 172).

I have considered putting a window into the door. That way Forest River could only argue warranty issues with the door and not the rest of the trailer. Should something go wrong having had a window installed, all that is needed is to order a replacement door from the dealer.

You will enjoy your trailer very much.

Someone in the last week or so, showed a picture of a 176 that they installed portholes in the bunks. Hi everyone. I've been watching this forum for a while and love it. My wife and I ordered an R-176 which should arrive in Anchorage any day! We live in Fairbanks and hope to get it home before winter hits, which could be any day with how this summer has been going. We have 2 kids which is why we went with the bunk bed floor plan. A question I have is has anyone installed a window anywhere other than the door? I think the R-176 would look nice with port hole type windows in the bunk area. My kids have asked as well. 

We spent about 10 years in Anchorage and had a 40' sailboat in Seward. When we moved to land locked Fairbanks we sold the boat and have missed it ever since.
